I have a Himax 2025-3200 motor with the himax gear box on a Great planes suhkoi 3D. I am using the 4.3 gear ratio with an 11x7 prop and the plane flys great for about 3 minutes. I am not going any 3d at the moment and I was wondering if I use the 6.6 gear ratio with a 12x6 pro will I get any more flying time? I forgot to mention I us a Li-po 1800 3 cell battery and a 30a controller.

I am new to this electric stuff and I am trying to figure out the right combination for my motor and gear box. I went to the Himax web page and saw that with the 4.3 gear ration and an 11x7 prop I will get the must thrust(32.3 oz), but it is pulling 12 amps. With a 6.6 gear ratio and a 12x8 prop it is only pulling 7.2 amps, but the thrust is down a lot(25.7 oz). My plane weigh's in at 26oz and the thrust rating with the 12x8 prop is only 25.7. I was thinking if I used a 12x6 prop I might pick up a little on the thrust. What are your thoughts.

what happens when it stops? are you saying the battery is totally drained? When you charge it back up does the charger say it put in over 1600?? Sounds like a weak battery so far, that its not able to keep up with the demands of the motor/gearing/prop combo.

Is anything hot when you land? motor, esc, battery?

The motor and battery are warm to the touch but not hot. When the motor is loosing power and cannot pull the plane thru the air I land. This is only 3 minutes into the flight. I agree I think my trouble is the battery pack or maybe my charger. I am using the little charger that came with the 1800 8c battery I bought off of e-bay. I went out and bought a new e-flight li-po battery charger. My flights are now up to 5 minutes, but this 4.3 gear ratio and 11x7 prop is pulling over 16 amps at full throttle. My battery is only rated at 8c so I think my battery is being drained at 12 to 16 amps. I have now ordered a 2200 mah li-po 15c battery. I hope to get about 10 minutes flying time with it.
