Default Himax Outrunner Problem....HELP!

I have a problem that I was hoping someone might could help me with. I have a Himax outrunner model 2812-0850 and I am trying to reverse the shaft so I can mount it with 4 screws on a wood plate. I have loosened both set screws, one on the collar and took it off and the one set screw on the rotor. I have tried tapping...not real hard... on the shaft and have taken a heavy metal plate and put some pretty good pressure on the shaft but I cannot get the shaft to budge a fraction of a microscopic millimeter.

Any assistance regarding this would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
Harleyflyer

If you go in the "Tips and Tricks" link on the Maxx Products site there is the correct procedure for what you are trying to accomplish, I hope this helps.

I can't remember for sure but I think there was a small clip on one side of the shaft you need to remove also.

Yeah, it looks like a small snap ring where the shaft goes into the bearing under the collar.

Wow, I don't remember it being that hard but it is good to know.

Thanks

HarleyFlyer:

This might help. I recently had a need to replace the shaft in a Outrunner 2812-0650 and MaxxProducts suggested I look at this site: http://www.maxxprod.com/mpi/tips1.html . I'm unfamiliar with your ...-0850, but perhaps it'll work the same. A friend of mine also recommended I freeze the new shaft and moderately heat the case before inseting the new shaft for an easier fit. I have the new shaft on order so haven't tried this yet. I'm told you can also use a vise in place of the drill or arbor press. Good luck. Let me know if this helps.

Actually, I used a vise and it actually worked great. I didn't have one so someone had suggested that so I went out and bought one. Basically, what I found was the shaft will move through the motor after you take off the collar the one side and loosen the set screw on the other side but it just takes alot of smooth even pressure and that is why the vise worked great.

Hope you have good luck with your replacement.

'glad to hear the vise worked. I just received my new shaft. Your success gives me confidence I can probably pull off a shaft change out too. Thank you for replying.
