Default AXI 4130/16 RPM Reading Question

I have an AXI 4130/16 motor and a Jeti Opto 77 speed control. Using a 5S/3700 Li-poly pack and an APC 13X10E prop, I get a static RPM reading of 9150 RPM. This seems high, since the motor is rated at 385 RPM/V. This being the case, I would have thought the max the motor would spin would be about 7700 RPM at 20V. I'm confident the RPM reading that I took is accurate. I have the JETI set on the hotter timing (outrunner). Anyone have any ideas why the RPM would be higher than what I would expect?

By the way, here's a photo of the plane with the system in question.

Nice looking bird!!!!! I've had my eye on one of those. Is it the one made by CMPro?? How well does it fly and land?? Any bad tendencies you have to be on the look out while flying or landing it?? What about your power setup? How does it pull the bird around and what flight time are you getting from the setup?

I'm sure it will have more than enough power, but I have not been able to fly it yet. It is a CMPro Lancair 360 MKII. It weighs about 6.5 lbs, so the wing loading will be on the high side. I don't think it will be a problem though. I expect to get at least 10 minutes of flying time, since full throttle will not be needed much. I'll be posting a flight report in the CMPro Lancair thread.

Todd:

Great looking plane. 9150 rpm with a 10 pitch prop is gonna pull the wings right off that thing hitting somewhere in the 130 mph range. It will also unwind in the air. Did not think the AXI motors were capable of any speed uses just based on what the speed guys are using. Have a 4130 in the motor cabinet, may just get it out and see what is what!

What is really scary is that it will pull a 12X12 prop even faster. I guess I'd better get those hinge gaps sealed!

I finally answered my own question, I have a AXI 4120/14 that has a RPM/V of 650. Running a 5C pack, I need to drop the prop to a 12X8 so I don't exceed the motor curent ratings. Sorry about that, guess I should keep track of what I'm putting in my planes. It's been a long winter.
