Melted a Castle 80 while first taxi tests in Phoenix Su 31 with an Axi 4130/16 spinning apc 13x8 power from a 6s1p 3700 Flight Power all brand new...first taxi test!!! Did not get 10 seconds and could smell that smell of this is not good HOT HOT. Should I be using a BEC? How big? I've shipped the Esc off to Kansas(clicked my heels twice)so I don't want this to happen again. Any help with this out there

My amps are low..was even being safe(or thought so) with the 13 prop. I just wanted to do taxi tests. Are you using a seperate BEC with your set up???

If you were using the BEC, you were totally out of the ball park on 6S lipo, no wonder it smoked[:@], I believe the max is 12 Ni cell 14.4V, your pack is 22.2V way too high for using BEC.

Six 'O one...half dozen 'O the other...
The seperate battery is cheaper, especially if you already have one
but heavier and takes up more space.
I used a UBEC (in the Pulse ) I got from Hobby-Lobby that will connect to the main Li-Po battery pack and power up to 8 servos...
It was $34.95 IIRC but only weighs an ounce.
I also have a Phx. 60 in a converted PT-40 trainer, that's using the same 3200 Kokam 4S1P's but we're only using 3 servos with that set-up.

Also using a UBEC in a Pulse XT. 60 amp CC , Himax 50 on 5s1p Makita 18.5 LI-ION batts. with no problems. Bought at the NEAT show Called Hercules by Western Robotics. Will handle up to 8 servos.

Thanks Guys
Got the ESC back from Castle(super fast) there was a faulty circuit in it and they replaced it. I decided to run with a separate receiver battery on this setup and it works great now
