Default LOW,MID,HIGH TIMING

Good morning to you all
My problem is I have an ALIGN 25 amp esc that I want to use with a Himax 2025-4200 gearded motor The manual states use low timing if the motor is 2 pole mid timing if it is 6 or more poles.Well I have no clue how many poles this Himax has.I tried mid timing and it seems to run fine on a 2100 mah 2s10c lipo pack but on a 1100 mah ni-mh when it does run the RPM will hunt at WOT,most of the time with the 1100 ni-mh the motor will just sit and chatter and not run at all.I know someone has the answers you guys always do.

Hey Highflyer,
I don't see any listing as to the pole count on that motor, but as it is a high kv inrunner, you can bet it's a low pole count, try the low timming
Good luck,
Pete

Hey Pete
I e-mailed himax and there reply was it's a 2 pole motor and should use low timing for best performance.I set the esc for low timing and all is well.I installed it on a SS geared 6.60to1 swinging a 1280 apc sf .Motor and esc stay cool with a 2s10c2100mah lipo it's only drawing 8.2 amps according to my watt meter. this is way overkill for a SS, I can't imagine this combination using a 3 cell lipo on a SS it would probably need a better wing. But I love it, it's made a boring plane fun again.

Hey Highflyer,
Good to hear that worked out, usually low timming can be used on any motor, but with a little loss in performance, timming in a commutated motor is very similar to spark timming with an infernal combustion engine.
I too fly the SS on 2S, I think 3S is a bit over the top, but I have friends that do it, but I think that makes it a "ballistic stick"[X(]
Regards,
Pete

Good to here from you pilotpete2, my ss is a bit over the top but fun for now. What I think I'll do is play for awhile and then pull the Himax out and put the brushed 350 back in.I'll use the Himax in a plane that can better use it's power.Any suggestions?
