Default Vortex 28/22/1380 question...

Vortex 28/22/1380.

This is the spec.......

Dimensions: 28mm (D) x 22mm (L)
Weight: 29g
Shaft size: 3.2mm
Max Efficency: 78%
Max Volts: 3S or 6-10cells
KV: 1380
Current Cont A: 6A
Max A (60s): 7A
Prop: 6x4-8x4

Can someone tell me what the 1380 KV means? also max volts is 3s. What does that mean? I am using a Lipo 600 MAH 11.1V. If I want more power do I need a bigger motor or a more powerfull battery? Please help as the power from this combo is stuggling prop hang my Ikarus Edge 540T using an 8x4 APC prop!!!

Can someone also explain what the "3S" means? and also the Current Cont and the Max A (60s): 7A.

Thanks in advance.

Default RE: Vortex 28/22/1380 question...

Max Volts: 3S or 6-10cells = 3S means three Lipos in series (i.e. connected +/- +/-+/-). This wiil give you 11.1 Volts. 10 NiMh
or NiCd will give you 12 volts (these are average numbers, the actual charges would be a bit higher)
KV: 1380 = the revolutions per minute the motor will turn for one volt under ideal conditions (@ 10 volts thismotor would ideally
13,800 RPM). As a VERY general rule the lower the KV the larger the prop the motor canswing without a gearbox.
Current Cont A: 6A = the maximum continuous current the motor can be operated at.
Max A (60s): 7A = the (theoretical) maximum current the motor can handle. If you measure 7A at full throttle and manage the
throttle during flying you will probably average way less than the Max Cont current.
Both these numbers presume you want maximum service life for the motor. On cheaper motors they are often
exceeded by a small amount.

Prop: 6x4-8x4 Try a differnt sized prop, maybe a 7x6. Also make sure your prop is an APCe or Cam or Graupner e. I cannot comment on GWS props as I have never flown them. For 3d flight you want a large diameter and small pitch. Maybe there's a 9x2 available.
