BL Outrunner to replace brushed 400 inrunner
I'm buying a Great Planes Yak 55 as my second plane (first powered plane - I have a glider) but want to move to brushless straightaway, after realising its benefits in my RC cars.
Anyway, what sort of outrunner (size and kV rating etc.) should I be looking at for a [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXKVY7&P=ML]Great Planes Yak 55?[/link] Something fairly cheap but from a known brand would be nice.
I've been looking at Great Planes' [link=http://www.electrifly.com/powersystem/motors/motors-rimfire.html]Rimfire outrunners[/link] and am tempted, but which size should I go for?
Any help would be appreciated

RE: BL Outrunner to replace brushed 400 inrunner
You could also look at the E-Flite motors the Park 400 outrunner would be ok, but the Park 450 would bring that bird to life.
Also the Himax motors like the 2812 850/or 1080kv would be good.
You could get around on a 150 watt motor, but 200 watt would preform better.
If you really wanted to go cheap the towerpro/bp motors would do. The 2408-21 will put out 21oz of thrust and if your plane comes in at the 14-15oz mark it would fly nice. However if you wanted more 3D out of it I would step up to the 200 watt class.

Brilliant... thanks for the reply.
I've had a look at some motors and have found these, which seem pretty close to the specs of the one you pointed out:
http://www.sussex-model-centre.co.uk...d.asp?id=20353
Would that be a good choice?
If it isn't, I'd really appreciate it if you/someone else could find me an outrunner on this UK site that you think would fit the bill nicely.

Try this one EMAX CF2822 http://www.sussex-model-centre.co.uk...d.asp?id=20651
this one http://www.sussex-model-centre.co.uk...d.asp?id=20353
this one http://www.sussex-model-centre.co.uk...d.asp?id=19786
this one http://www.sussex-model-centre.co.uk...d.asp?id=20045
these will all fly your plane. Look at the amp draws on them and prop sizes and make sure your batteries will handle the specs it calls for.
