how to connect esc to motor?

how to connect esc to motor?
sorry for what is no doubt a total noob question (which i am)
i have a hextronic 18A esc with 3 red wires
i have a towerpro 2408-21t brushless with a red, white, and black wire.
how do i know which to connect to which?
will i damage anything if i do it wrong?
didn't get instructions with it and am a bit ignorant regarding electricity[&:]

Just go ahead and connect them and if the motor runs backwards just reverse any two the wires.

Did you get your stuff at United Hobbies? Did either the motor or ESC comes with bullet connectors? Or did you have to get some from the hobby store?

If I may suggest, get different coloured electrical tape. I think I got mine Radio Shack. Maybe it was an auto parts store.
When you've to the wires the way you want, wrap a bit of electrical tape on matching ends so you can reconnect them back the same way.
