What battery and speed control should I use and is a speed control compatable with this receiver. You won't need a separate Rx battery pack since the ESC you get will have a BEC (Battery eliminator circuit) which will supply ~5v power to your RX and servos. A 10A brushed ESC will be plenty since a 280 motor shouldn't draw more than 5A or so. Personally I'd get a Castle Creations Pixie 7P but there are cheaper ESC's out there. You should probably use no more than 7-cells or 2s Lipo for that motor and any pack big enough to supply 5-8A will be plenty (a 2s 15C 480 might be okay).
The ESC doesn't care what Rx you have.
If you intend to be in the game for the long haul (and don't already have a charger) I'd go with Lipo from the outset.
