Cleaning mud from an outrunner
Yep, thats right. I drove my slow stick into 3in of mud and water. The engine is packed with mud. It barely turns by hand. It's an Eflight 450. I've never had one apart. Do they pull apart easily so I can clean it? I thought about soaking it in something. Maybe some electronic cleaner.
Thanks for any help!

Once apart, I think I would immerse the rotor and stator in distilled water to wash the mud away. Follow this with alcohol to displace the water, and then blow- or air-dry. Try to avoid abrading the mud against the wire insulation. I would also inspect the magnets carefully for any particles that may be adhering to them. Mud or sand contains a lot of magnetic material and only a few particles can prevent smooth rotation. You might need to brush the magnets a bit to clear any of these away. Also, a few drops of oil in the bearings is probably a good idea. It might also be a good idea to use a DVOM to check for a short between the motor leads and casing. Once you get all the grime out, you should be back in business. Good luck with the cleaning!
