Motor cuts out before reaching max speed
Hi
I recently bought an ARF 3D model complete with motor and matched speed controller. The motor runs fine up to about 50% throttle stck movement but then suddenly cuts out. After moving throttle stick back to zero motor resets until 50% stick movement again. Any ideas?

it is your low voltage cutoff..... I'm guessing if it isn't auto detect then you need to re-program that to match the number of cells you are using.

Either the LVC, as exeter said, or it could also be that you need to set your throttle range in the ESC. Check with your controller instructions to find the procedure.

The last time I had that problem, it ended up being that my batteries were only 15c and the motor
needed at least 20c to run full throttle.
Ever since I upgraded to 20c or better batteries, I have not had that problem in any of my planes.
Something to think about

RE: Motor cuts out before reaching max speed
Thanks guys for the advice. Toywizard took the jackpot as it turned out to be the battery. The battery that cut the throttle was a 15C 1100 mahr and as I didn't have another similar to try I used one of two others that were 1000mahr 15c. One worked perfectly throughout the full throttle range and the other cut out as per the original problem. So it certainly seems that the batteries were right on the lower current capability. As I am in the process of changing from Nicds to Lipos in my 3M sailplane powered by a Astro 05 geared brushed motor which pulls around 30 amps on 12 volt 2200 mahr nicds, I reckon that I had better buy 25C lipos to be on the safe side. What do you reckon?

The point is you need a pack which can deliver, easily, the amps you need... C rate is only one half of the equation... if you need 30A....a 20C 2500mAh pack should be no different from a 25C 2000mAh pack, or a 40C 1250 mAh pack... all are rated for 50A, but of course the lowest capacity pack will get you the least flight time.
