Do I need capacitors?
Hi guys,
I'm about to install a Graupner speed 300 electric motor in my Alfa Models F4U Corsair. I really haven't had to solder anything in about 3 years so I'm a little hazy about one thing. Do I need to solder capacitors on it as well? If so, is there a particular kind I should look for?
Thanks!
Eric

RE: Do I need capacitors?
I'm not familiar with the S300, but some had caps already soldered in. Look to see if there's a tiny wire exiting the case and already soldered to the battery taps.

I'm still new here but Walt, you've come through for me once again. I'll go back and take a look. If memory serves, I don't think I remember seeing any wires come out and being soldered to the battery tabs but I could be wrong. I haven't looked at it in a few weeks.
Thank you so much again!
Eric

Actually what you need are ceramic disc capacitors [0.047uF... 0.047 microFarads, for which the symbol is the Greek mu]...as written with an m (= milli), 47 milliFarads would be a huge capacitance.
picoFarads (pF) are a trillionth of a Farad (F)... and thus are a million times smaller than microFarads (uF), and 1000 million times smaller than milliFarads (mF)
If you buy these ceramic capacitors at hobby stores they are often mislabeled as 47mF, but if you get 'em from RadioShack they will be correctly labeled as .047uF.

RE: Do I need capacitors?
Thank you Doc!
I'm almost postive my LHS doesn't carry them so it looks like a stop-off at Radio Shack for me.
You guys are great!
Eric
