Default Esc?

I'm thinking about getting into flying somethingelse along withmy heli's.I have a 25 amp esc from my E-Flight Blade 400. I have been looking at the E-flite Extra 260 3D 480 ARF. It recommends a 40 amp esc and 2100 mah lipo. On my blade I was running 2200mah lipo's with no problems. Would this be ok to try with a park 480 motor on that plane? Any problems running a 2200mah instead of the recommended 2100mah?

Thanks

Default RE: Esc?

The 2200mah would be just fine but the 25 amp esc is to small.

Default RE: Esc?

This is my take on that question but I don't fly heli so it is based on what I have heard and read.

I think that is kind of like comparing a apple to a orange. They are both fruits. A heli and plane both use a motor but not generally the same motor. The heli is normally higher kv. The load depends on the prop size and pitch while on the heli it depends on the gear ratio setup.

I hope this helps.

A 2200 mAh battery is fine for that plane and the Park 480 motor.

However, the Park 480 motor with the recommended 12x6 prop will draw much more than 25A. So your 25A ESC is not large enough. That's why E-flite specifies a 35A-40A ESC.

It's not the battery that determines how large an ESC you need. It's the motor and prop.

Ok, thanks guys. Maybe I'll upgrade my heli's esc and take the 35amp align esc out and use that.

Thanks again.
