Motor selection?
 

Someone gave me a crunched Dazzler that I de-skinned and rebuilt. I'd like to convert it to electric. The airframe is 2 1/4 pounds now empty and uncovered. I think I could get it to 2 or under with some careful drilling. Of course need to add weight for rcvr, servos, motor and battery pack.

Can someone please recommend a motor/prop and speed control/pack size for this size plane. I'm thinking folding prop and leaving the gear off to minimize weight, no?

Part of the whole electric conversion experience is making the plane look and behave exactly like its glow counterpart, without the noise. On top of that, belly-flopping a .40-size plane is rough on the airframe, and hand-launching can sometimes be a challenge. I'd go ahead and leave the landing gear on. Nothing is cooler than showing doubtful glow pilots what's what by doing an impressive ROG takeoff.

There are several ways you can go with this plane. If you can get the weight down, it may be feasible to go with a 10-cell setup like the AXi 2820/10 direct-driving a 12x8 APC Thin-E prop. For more power, you might consider going with a 12 or 14-cell setup using the AXi 2820/12 motor. For even more go-juice, 16 cells and the AXi 4140/14...

Getting the battery in the plane and getting the plane balanced may be a bit of a challenge, as the wing cuts right through the middle of the fuselage.
