ESC progrmable type for battery types
 
I have a esc that came with instuctions on how to program it by the beeps it makes , it can be set for nmhi batteris or lipos or nicads, I just flew my plane ,and within a few minutes it went dead stick and I lost all control ,right into some trees , now if I didnt set it or progeam it would it have shut down sooner with out giveing me any servo control to land it?

Most ESC come with a factory setting and should be described in the documentation.

I seriously doubt that you ran the battery so low the radio shut down. When you retrieved the plane what was the voltage of the battery?
If you were over-discharging the battery, you'd notice a gradual loss of power long before the the radio shut down. The biggest cause of loss of control with small electrics is due to an overloaded BEC circuit in the ESC shutting down due to overheating when the model has too many servos for the BEC, especially with a 3S battery.
