3D slow stick power system?

I just bought my second slow stick and want to make this one a brushless, lipo 3D plane with a good amount of flight duration. I know little about electric systems, so I was hoping someone could suggest a motor, esc, battery combo for this project. Thanks in advance.

You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear! Yes, you can fit the SS with a B/L motor, running on 3s Lipoly, but extreme 3D flight is beyond the capability of the airframe (it doesn't have a symmetrical wing section for inverted flight for a start). However, you could certainly have fun with an AXI2212/34, a Phoenix 10 or 25, and 3s TP 2100 pack - with an 11x7HD that will get you 100W @ <9A and 23oz thrust for a 13oz plane! Or you could go really crazy and fit a Nippy 1812/100, Phoenix 25, 3s2p Kokam 1500 and with the same 11x7HD get 210W @ 21A and 32oz thrust!

Cheers, Phil

Thanks for the suggestions Phil. I've heard of the 11x7HD from other posts, but I'm unclear as to what type of prop this is.

It's a GWS prop - called Direct Drive or Hyper Drive. They are slightly sturdier (with squarer tips) than the other orange GWS RS props and seem to be very efficient under static conditions. At the moment the range is limited, in the larger sizes, to one pitch/diameter (8x4, 9x5, 10x6, 11x7 and 12x8). balsapr, aeromicro, aircraftworld... all have 'em.

Cheers, Phil

I'm flying my SS with a Mega 16/7/8 with the Mega 2.8:1 gearbox, a Thunder Power 2s1P 2100mah Lipol, an APC 11x7 SF or 12x6 SF prop, and a Phoenix 10 ESC. I get unlimited vertical (more so with the 12 x 6) and 40 minute flights. Very fun. Sometimes I feel silly for spending so much on my $35 SS, but you know what it is fun.

You can fly inverted, just not particularly well.
