After 20+ electric planes of my own, plus dozens of successful recommendations, I can't say that I've EVER taken a serious look at thrust. Figuring thrust is just too complicated, and not nearly as important as you'd think.

If you really want to figure thrust, it's a complicated equation where you have to take into account the prop's diameter, pitch, RPM, airfoil type, and the atmospheric conditions. As I said... too complicated.

What's important is getting enough Watts to a big enough prop in a reasonably efficient manner. Physics says if you do that, thrust will come along for the ride, and you won't even have to think about it.

Rather than trying to compare two motors like you would two glow engines, you need to set criteria that the candidate motor must meet, pick one or more motors based on those criteria, then make your final decision based on more comparable such as quality, price, service after the sale... After a setup or two, you'll have a favorite motor brand that you'll go to every time, just like all those guys that won't buy anything but an O.S. glow engine.

These are the questions you need to ask:
1. How heavy should the plane be, ready to fly? Most planes come with a target all-up weight listed.
2. How do you want to fly the plane?
3. What's my prop clearance?

With that, we can walk through and show you how to choose a motor.

Well the plane in question should weigh out at 23oz with Lipo. I usually fly slow pattern , but would like to have enough power to grow into it, and be able to get out of trouble if needed.Oh an 12" Dia prop is prob the max. and I have a Phoenix 25 ESC that I would like to use if possible.
