Castle Creations Thunderbird 9 ESC Problem
 

Hi,

I have just had my Castle Creations Thunderbird 9 speed controller fail on me. It may be me asking too much of it, please advise.

The motor I am using is a [link=http://www.cyclonbrushless.com/cyclon.html]Micro Cyclon F3AI[/link].
The propeller is a [link=http://www.gwsus.com/english/product/propeller/propeller_eps.htm]GWS EP0843 (8"x4.3")[/link]
The pack is a Hi-Energy Li-Polymer (LiPo) 7.4v 800mA (Max Discharge of 5.6A)

The first flight was fine on a 3-cell LiPo (everything else was the same). The second flight, which was a week later with the above set up lasted about 20 seconds, before I lost ALL power (to the motor and to the receiver). Fortunately the model landed inverted without damage.

On inspection the speed controller had melted its heat shrink and de-soldered some chips.

I guess I may have asked too much of the ESC

Get that sent in Martin, and we'll get it replaced under warranty for you no problem.
