Need For Speed?????
 

what is realistic input watts per pound to fly a fast pusher jet....my chart states 110-130 watts per pound for advanced aerobatic and high-speed models...is this a good estimate? I have a aprox. 2lb aircraft...I want to really wring it out....I can only swing a 9-9.5" prop due to twin boom tail spacing restriction....According to my chart I would want 260 watts, which would equate to a continuous 26amp draw @ aprox. 10v, but I need to do this with a 9" prop....is it easier to obtain these #'s with a inrunner style brushless? If so any reccomendations as to which motor will acheive these figures with a given prop and 11.1v 3s lipo? I have a 40 amp esc so no prob there....

If you go with an inrunner, you are going to have to get a gearbox. Going direct drive with say a 4200 or 5200kv inrunner with a large prop like that is not a good idea. Something is gonna smoke [:-] You also have to think about stripping gears with the gearbox. Plus, I don't think there are too many inrunners for a plane around that weight. They seem to stop around 28oz or so. I prefer the outrunners. Take a look:

A Mega 16-15-4 with a 6X4 prop should put you close to the watts you need.
