Do you use securing collar with axi
Just curious if anyone else does not use the securing collar with axi?
I have never used one and have never had a problem in the last 5 years. Ordered an axi 2814/16 and wonder if it's a good idea? |
RE: Do you use securing collar with axi
If you use the radial mount it is as good idea - since all that holds your bell/shaft in is a circlip. Obviously if you have the motor mounted conventionally behind a firewall the shaft and bell can't go anywhere!

RE: Do you use securing collar with axi
I plan on mounting the motor backward and in front of the fire wall. Yes, the collar is a good idea. I also am planning on using E propellers instead of the SF propellers. AXI 2814/16 rpms over stresses the SF propellers. I never had a problem with SF propellers before. My 3 year old is with me when I fly.

With a 65,000rpm/diam limit the SF props are a no-no with that motor even on 2s.

What about an axi 2212/20? SF or E prop?

RE: Do you use securing collar with axi
ORIGINAL: hobdean What about an axi 2212/20? SF or E prop? 1150Kv on 3s with the recommended 10x5 prop. Kv x V (@10.5v) = 12075rpm... with that prop on expect perhaps 70% of Kv x V = 12075 x 0.70 = 8450rpm RPM limit for 10x4.7 APC SF = 6500rpm..... 8450rpm is obviously over the top! RPM limit for 10x5 APC E = 19,000rpm...... 8450rpm is easily within the "safe" range! |
RE: Do you use securing collar with axi
Thanks
Measured rpms today. Measured 7200 max but 6800 rpms was average after the first burst. No telling what the rpms are once the prop unloads. First time to measure electric rpms and just think I have always had a meter for my gas planes. Put a led flashlight shining back at the plane to nullify the indoor lighting. It was a SF prop. Guess it's time to switch to an E prop. SF prop was 10x4.7 and from what I have read, go up one in pitch to a 10x5.5 E would be the ticket. Have been flying electrics for some time but, gas planes was my main concentration till now. Flew my CST Katana today across my street on a dead end street and 46 degrees outside ! |
RE: Do you use securing collar with axi
What would be the best electric motor for a 60ounce plane to fly 3d?
Want to fly on a 3cell li-po 2150 25 battery due to weight restrictions. My choice is an axi 2826/12 due to I favor axi, but it really needs a 4 cell then weight is added. You seem to be knowledgeable in electrics. I have looked at some static thrust numbers but, static numbers are more confusing as the motors get larger. Thanks for your help |
