2 outrunners on same shaft
Is it possible to install 2 identical outrunner motors on the same shaft? If so, what would this set up require?

RE: 2 outrunners on same shaft
Works fine. Gives 2x the torque for 2x the watts. Need 2 ESC's.

RE: 2 outrunners on same shaft
While two ESC's would be best, if the two motors were phased identical, one ESC would work. Since the two motors would be teamed together the BEMF would be the same for the two motors. Whether to connect them in parallel or series is an interesting question.
Another way to connect them would be to connect the ESC to one motor and use a dumb ESC on the second motor. The dumb ESC would only have the FET drivers, the FETs would use the same control signals that the micro on the first ESC generates. |

They would be wired in parallel, unless all six wires were brought out. Getting them phased correctly is not as easy as it looks. Two ESC's is easier.

Yeah, 2 esc is better. I have seen people use 2 motors on one shaft for an electric cart. Of course, big motors...
You must use 2 esc's. |
