Which replacement engine?
I have a HPI Hellfire and the engine is bad. It has a K46 HO engine. I am looking for a replacement with around the same HP for $200. Should I find an original engine or is there a better replacement? Thanks,

RE: Which replacement engine?
For bashing a LRP 28 goes great in a hellfire. If you are getting the pullstart version you mite have to raise the engine slightly with washers or similar or the pullstart backplate hits the chasis.
My favourite engine for my hellfire was the os 28. Reliable, easy to tune and very powerful. Gota watch the diffs tho!

For the money, an SH .28 is cheaper than the LRP and is the same engine. The LRP .28 spec 2 is a 6 port engine, the spec 3 is the 8 port engine. The Spec 2 and SH .28 p6 are the same engine, and the spec 3 is the same as the SH p8 or Losi 454. LRP, XTM, Dynamite, Losi, etc are all SH engines that are rebranded. Oftentimes, the SH line is the cheapest and run quite well for what they are.

a Spec 3 is not a 8 port...it is only a 6 port...they falsely claim it is a 8 port....

I've seen port counts advertised as including the exhaust port(s), as well as intake + exhaust (7 port or 6+1 port) but in reality, the ones that should be counted are the induction ports only. The sleeves from my SH .28 and Mach 427 are both 6 ports though the Mach was marketed as a 6+1.
Does the spec 3 have a web splitting the exhaust port into two?
edit: I just looked at a picture of the spec 3 sleeve. I can see the little port under the main transfer port, though by the looks of it the piston wont even open it up at BDC. I agree on being a true 6 port with 2 ports that serve little purpose as I see it.

RE: Which replacement engine?
Is this a good engine. Seems cheap. I read they are made by SH. Would my original clutch fit or do I need a engine specific clutch?
