sirio .27 rotostart mod!
if anyones interested this is what i had to do to fit my rotostart to the sirio
you will need 1 set of rotostart gears (hpi set for the 12/15 (bigger 1-way bearing) and a dremel thats it!
this is quite difficult to explain as i dont have a picture of what the rotostart did look like before i took a dremel to it so just imagine...
on the backplate theres a ridge which the ring of the back of the rotostart sits in and a deeper hole where the one way bearing spins round in..
all you need to do is just dremel that ridge out/down to allow the new rotostrt gear to fit in(drop in) you also need to just slightly dremel out the bottom of the casing to allow for the slightly bigger one way bearing..
ive tried to show in my picture below
the white circle is a kind of represents how its looked before hand and also the bit you need to dremel down to allow the new gear to fit nicely.
the yellow hex shape is where the 1-way fits in
and the grey shaded bit is the back of the rotostart that needs a minor dremeling down to accomodate the ever so slightly bigger 1-way bearing.
does this make sense?
if everything is nicely dremeled down the rotostart fits.turns and works like a dream!
hope this helps

Awesome!!
Can you buy the gears from Tower Hobbies, do you know?
Do you have the part #'s?
I'm definately going to try this
Thanks for the info.

I have heard from someone else on this forum that Trinity does not recommend this mod as it can damage the crank.
Other than the fact that you have to remove the backplate when the piston is top dead centre I don't see what could be the harm in this. My pull start on my Racer Xl hasn't broke yet but I'd love to install the roto from my 25.
Anyone see how this alleged damage is possible?
