engine horror , please help
i have a new jp fx 3 12 in my mugen mtx3, i didnt have a batt for the car so i started the break in procedure on idle for 4 tanks ,and the next time i was out running i could finish it off when i get a batt, so i put after run oil in it and left it, but when i did finally get another chance to run it i noticed the flywheel was stuck. so i heated it up to free it up a bit with a hair dryer. then when i moved the flywhel it felt grainy as if there was dirt in the engine, on opening it up i was shocked to see brown sludge all over the place, i used o'donnel 20% and proper afterrun oil, i was advised to soak the engine in petrol/gas so i did and it has'nt really helped, i think its gone rusty in there now , i dont know what to do ? this engine was brandnew ...
i have run in race engines before in exactly the same way and all was ok,
heres some pics , ps, i dont have receipt as i bought it privately , so i cant send it back to manufacturer,
any help would be greatly appreciated ,

RE: engine horror , please help
That's rust!!!!
Did you clean out the engine before storing it? Nitro is corrosive.
Looks like you got some condensation going there on top of it.
How long was it since you ran it?

I think the engine is toast, there is rust in the bearings and they will quickly disintegrate when you run the engine. Water must have got in the engine (what did the engine look like BEFORE you ran it?) and just rusted it away.

RE: engine horror , please help
It's probably not completely toast BUT it will take time getting it up and running.
Disassemble and clean. Rod, piston, liner, crank could be OK but will need a lot of TLC.
Get new bearings, wrist pin + clips. Clean crank case and assemble again.

Go from there. Don't try to turn it or use any kind of violence to turn it over.

RE: engine horror , please help
That engine will definately need:
Bearings
Crank
Rod
Piston
Wrist pin
Sleeve
If that is less that the cost of a new engine then rebuild. I would imagine that number of parts would be at least coming close to a new engine. With the price engines are, I wouldn't rebuild one for more than 50% of the cost.

RE: engine horror , please help
Ok
For starters you will need:
-New front and rear bearing, they are unsalvageable.
-New Piston pin & circlips.
Is the liner FREE from any corrosion? It shouldn't be corroded, but if it is, you will need to turf it.
Get some 2000 grit sandpaper and use it to "polish" off the rust on the crank. DO NOT SAND THE CRANK PIN, PLACE A PIECE OF FUEL TUBING OVER IT, if the crank pin has rust on it, forget it and buy a new crank, the tiniest little pit/scratch on a crank pin will eat rod bushings left, right and centre.
Clean the rod with a scouring pad, and check that the oil holes aren't filled with rust.
IMO you are probably better off buying a new engine, and keeping this one for spares.....
