Default OS VZ-B leaning itself???

Okay well this engine has been a bit of a PITA as of late. Hasn't been holding a tune properly and yes I can tune. It runs good for about a lap then starts acting like it was never tuned at all...then it idles at mad high speeds, drops down and dies. I've checked everything from a possible air leak to plugs to who knows what. Temps are a consistant 200-220, good smoke. I don't know what else to do, it has been reset to factory and re-tuned like 3 times in the last week...then I get the same problems. Any ideas?? Oh yeah, only about a gallon through it.

Cheers[8D]

Maybe an O-ring in the carb is going bad?

Disclaimer: I don't own a VZ-B.

Thanks guys, I'm gonna try runnin it once more, I had it apart today, not the whole engine but enough to get it cleaned. I'll re-tune and if it's a no go, the O-ring will be examined.

Thanks again,

Cheers

If you are going to take it apart I would get some high temperature oxygen sensor safe RTV and seal the backing plate as well as where the carburetor goes in the case. Make sure not to get the RTV in the engine. Is this engine new or have you ever had it running properly?

The engine is fairly new, bought back in May. Less than a gallon through it. It was at one point running well, a little warm (250). Then bam, this happens. Nothing was changed and nothing happened. No wipeouts, nothin. I'll definitely get that sealant you were talking about. Where do you get that sealant?

Should be able to get it at any auto parts store. I do not know much about OS big blocks but I have always gotten real good service out of my OS small blocks. Matter of fact today my OS .18 TZ got here which on a dyno was putting out all most 2.3 HP. I am waiting for the OS .30 to hit the states so I can get one for my Savage.
Keep us posted.

Okay so I took the engine out and cleaned it down real good and reset the needles to factory. Turns out, no pun intended, that the mi-range needle had been adjusted like 2.5 turns out from factory, I never checked it because I never tune my mid range needle...after putting this back to stock setting and re-tuning, the engine is working great. Thanks all!

Cheers
