Default Ninja .28 not running like expected?

So I'm trying to break in my Ninja .28, and it's sucking right now. At the stock needle setting, 4.5 LS, 2 HS, the engine won't start, but when I lean it enough to start it, the engine 4-stroke, but runs extremely hot while doing so.

I've tried to lean it out of 4-stroking, but this isn't working for me.

Could this be an air leak?

It was rich. It was 4-stroking.

I just found an airleak by the carb.

Run Ninja plugs only...do not use a T-32 pipe (kills top end bad, causes motor to run lean)..........make sure temp gun is accurate

That is 100% normal.....no front bearings seal 100%....

Bearing should be somewhat loose when its cold, and expand once it heats up.

how many shims are in it?
what nitro content?
what temp plug?

300 degrees already during break-in? that motor is toast, lean her out and go to the track, maybe it will last another gallon or so.

I know you will get some bubbles from the front bearing seals. Usually though, it will have an erratic idle with a big enough leak. I had a leak large enough that I could feel it blowing in my palm when I tested it. As for the 300F temp, make sure your temp guage is accurate. You can try the spit test on the head. It it bubbles away really fast, then you are running too hot. On the 4 stroking, you need to close the HSN and open the LSN needle to control the temp.

Get a toothbrush or something and scrub some water with dish detergent on certain parts of you engine, and then block off the exhaust and carb holes and blow in the fuel line. If it bubbles, you have an air leak.

Set the neddles to factory settings, it should be rich enough. What fuel are you using and how old is it? I would recommend maxy's break in fuel. Break it in at full throttle, it will spit out a bit of fuel and oil out the exhaust, and the rpms will be low at first and gradually climb as the engine gets hotter. If rpms build substantially, and the temps still reach anywhere near 300... an effective leaning effect then you definitely have a leak. Check your fuel lines again, also your exhaust manifold. Ensure your plug has tightened correct and change the shim if you can.
