For the carb, at the carb/engine block junction and around the pinch bolt
For the engine, between the block and the backplate
apply any sealant very sparingly to mating surfaces, it does not take a lot to do the job

Permatex copper is not Nitromethane proof and therefore should not be used.... instead use RacersEdge sealant or Threebond 1211.............that copper stuff will work for a bit, but as soon as Nitro makes contact it will start to melt.....

Isn't the reacers edge stuff silicon too?
I've always used the red RTV and its never seem to melt.
What do yall use to seal the needles since I heard green slime will make the O-rings fall apart?

Don't get me wrong, I have used Permatex many many times...... but at the time it was the best thing I could find.... Since then I started using Threebond 1211 or Racers Edge which are both a superior products.... Permatex will work, but it is not Nitro proof and will slowly dissolve under constant exposure..of course it will hold its seal for a while but nothing like the other 2 products I use.........
The Racers Edge and Threebond seem to me to be identical products other then color.. they are a type if silicone, but are based off different solvents, they smell completely different then any other silicone I have seen... When the tubes are new they are almost a creamy texture that is easy to spread and use, almost like a thick hand soap...I use this stuff to fill my cranks after I have lightened them, once it cures it feels like very firm silicone............

supertib...that silicone you describe sounds a lot like "flowable" silicone that is typically sold in auto parts stores to seal water leaks around windshields.
I have been using it for a couple of years...and seems to hold up well. It doesn't have that strong vinegar (eye watering/nostril burning ) odor...or at least not quite as bad anyway.

1211 has a Latex smell to it, zero vinegar smell....
