RE: The Future of Offroad Engines?

I'm suprised to see the rc engines havent really gone away from aircooling yet. Back in the day in karting, formula A had 100cc aircooled engines revving 22k and making at least 44hp on gas. They moved onto water cooling short after. I think there can be some benefits to water cooling, but cost will definately go up as it did in karting.
Frankly, if they want to keep up with the brushless crowd, they should up the cc a bit. It wont be hard to catch up with displacement. I'd lvoe tos ee what someone could do with rotary valve 4 cylinder, or solenoid operated 4 cylinder in about a 6cc, but the money it would cost to build something like that would be outrageous.
Frankly, they need more transmission advancement. as well, not enough gearing. Would be nice to see some kind of 5 or 6 speed sequential box operated by switch.
With that being said, I think this is a great setup forward in nitro engines. I really hope this brushless crap doesnt start fazing out nitro.
I'd like to see an elelectric go kart be competitive with a 2 stroke kart, it wont happen, until we have some crazy fuel cels, and thats why I say the nitro industry just isnt running enough cc and too small of fuel.

actually better cooling doesnt mean you can run higher nitro content..... as nitro burns cool as-is.

Putting 2 .18 engines side by side and using the same carb and exhaust...on a 2 stroke is not my idea of innovative.

they don't make a real twin engine right now...the Shumacker is 2 separate engines put together.......

Sure, it's not a production engine yet, but Kyosho does seem to be into the idea. This was at the 2009 Nuremberg toy fair.
(at least that's what I think it was taking at, I don't remember exactly.I just had the photo bookmarked)

that engine is for show purposes only..it would be impossible for it to run... You cannot run a multi cylinder 2 stroke on a common crankcase...each cylinder needs to have its own sealed and separate crankcase

uhhhhh, not sure if you have seen but, many twins have single carbs and have two into one exhaust? [:-]

As supertib pointed out, the above v-twin engine looks very pretty but is totally useless.
