How do I fix a gummed up motor?
Well since spring is almost upon us I decided to clean up the ole HPI Savage 21. Tried pulling the starter rope and it would not budge. Guess I didn't do a good job of cleaning it up last time I ran it. So how do I get this motor running again or can I even?
What i have done so far:
Took pull starter off and engine back plate. Took head off and carb off.
Hosed it down with WD-40 and got it loosened up pretty good. The slide on the carb is also very sticky.
Do i just need to hose it down with carb, break, or engine degreaser?
Any chance i can get it running again to those who have had this problem or do i just need to buy a new motor?
Thanks!

the auto parts store sell carb cleaning kits. It looks like a gallon of pain. it comes with a strainer and you take everything apart completely, put it in the strainer and let it sit and soak in the cleaner for a while. I did this with a very old pro.15 and it cleaned everything out so good it looked like a new motor. I put it all back together soaked it with WD40 and it ran like a champ for another 6 gallons. great stuff. I use it on all my gunked up stuff. Its meant for carbs on bigger motors but works great on anything. hope that helps.
the other suggestions should also work too. pick one, go with it, and go have some fun.

strip your engine and soak the pieces over night in petrol. take out the pieces one by one and clean with a tooth brush(preferably your sisters(if you have one)) or old paint brush. Spray all the parts in with WD 40 and rebuild. Dont forget to seal the back plate. Use Lock tight on the balts for the cylinder head and give it a start. Have fun and take your time.[8D]

I once used a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store..
I took the plug out and filled the cylinder with the carp spray, spun the crank by hand and withing seconds the gum disolved..
worked great for me

I pull my engine apart as much as I can and throw everything into a container with Nitro fuel and let it sit for a while
then I remove the pieces, clean them off with a tooth brush. Spray everything down with Naphtha and blow off with a hose. The I lube everything up with after run oil and it is all good as gold.
