Axial .28RR-2 Carb

Hello all,
I've pulled my old Savage X SS out of the basement and started playing around with it trying to get it started, and I'm realizing it's in worse shape than I had thought unfortunately. Finally got fuel to hit the carb and it started pouring out the side, around the tuning screws. So I'm guessing the carb needs replaced or at least rebuilt. It's an Axial .28RR-2, and I'm noticing most of everything for it is discontinued. So my question is, are there any other complete carb assemblies from other manufacturers that will work on this engine? Or should I even be messing with this thing, would it be better to just replace the engine? TIA

if i remember correctly they are the same carbs as the HPI K-series engines. it sounds like your O-rings are just bad.
i love my Axial .28 great engine holds a tune really well and good power.
hope you get your truck running soon!
if you do want a new cheaper engine, the Dynamite Big Red is great and only about 150$, Novarossi is also really good, Nova 28-8/7.

Any idea where I might be able to grab a new o-ring set for the carb? The Axial part number is unavailable, and I have no idea if these are like a universal size or something.

for the most part, they are not a universal in size, though some o-rings will be the same to many models, others will not, so finding something with them all in it is the issue.
These are the o-ring sizes you need, remember these are a silicone o-rings, and the nitro fuel will eat nitrile and most other o-rings.
might be able to find a kit that has most of these sizes in them
1: 15235 O-RING 22.0x0.9mm
2 : 15270 O-RING 11.5x1.25mm
2 : 15278 O-RING 2.0x1.5mm
3 : 15279 O-RING 2.0x1.7mm
1 : 15284 O-RING 2.0x1.0mm

HPI#15241 is the complete kit of these o-rings, but the K4.6 has been discontinued for quite some time, and a bit more scarce, the F4.6 has a few that might work, but for the most part are different.

Nitrile o-rings (black rubber) are unaffected by methanol based fuels and even gasoline. Silicone o-rings are methanol fuel safe, but not gasoline. Nitrile hardens over a long period of time, silicone doesn’t. Nitrile would be a standard OEM type o-ring, silicone would be better as it will seal better and longer. Regardless of the o-ring used, use an appropriate lubricant when installing new o-ringed parts together.

thanks for correcting/clearing that up^

Wish my LHS was open to help with sourcing parts. Having a hard time finding anything for the savage these days.

Measure the o-rings you need and go to theoringstore.com. They have everything you need and then some.

Well its what I've got, and I'd rather fix it than buy a new platform, especially since income is limited due to the whole virus thing.
