Engine modifying/porting, yay or nay?

How much power is to be gained from sending an engine to a quality porting specialist? Anyone have experience with before and after they have had it done? I know the onroad guys love Smeltz and there is a guy on ebay that has great feedback for his work, RB Mods. Plus there are many, many others that do this work. What do you guys think that have had this work done?

Engine porting is a plus... but it also has its downfalls. Plan to race? they will inspect the cars and trucks... race with it and dominate... "protests" are dangerous heh.
