Engine question
Hello i have was wondering something about the head shims of ur nitro engine. I looked at the website of the engine i have and it says it could go up all the way to 16% nitro without modification. The thing is i am running 20% nitro and it says for every 5% more nitro content u use u have to add a 0.1mm shim under the head. will this 4% more content affect the engine in a bad way if i dun put the shim on? BTW it has flat head screws holding the head down which will be a pain to remove. NOt to mebtion some bent screwdrivers.

RE: Engine question
if its a .21 it will runon 30% with out adding a shim ifs it .12-.18 u need to ass a .05 shim pet 5% of nitro so .10 shim for 30% nitro hope this helps

RE: Engine question
so .05 shims? never knew they made those sizes. How would i get those flat headed screws off. They are extremly tight but there is no threadlock. If it won't hurt the engine with a .5mm shim i'd just leave it alone. Thats all i need to know if its a danger or they is a down side to not putting a .05 shim in

RE: Engine question
that is what i ment 5mm shim sorry

RE: Engine question
Nearly every engine on the market will be safe when using 20% nitro without modification. By the way, which engine are you using?
|
RE: Engine question
if you have problems get a cooler glowplug. it will have about the same effect as shims. (increased nitro means fuel burns quicker, decreasing compression (shims) will change your timing to ignite fuel later, using a cooler plug will do the same thing without dropping compression)

RE: Engine question
just on a final note what problems should i look out for? ALso i got two hot Top engine/Nova rossi#5 turbo plugs laying around and they're new. If i went with those and keep shim size the same will probs occur? engine is a rb v12 so i dun want to treat it badly without noticing[:'(] running 20% trinity monster horsepower. the weather here varies as well so will anyother quicker adjustments besides the plug i can use?

RE: Engine question
anyone?[sm=confused.gif] weather is decent would like to run my car bout 60-70 F[&o] Still rebuilding stuff anywayz i guess

RE: Engine question
My engine is recommended for 16% nitro.....pffffffft.....I run 35% and an A5 plug, have done so for over a gallon with no dramas at all.
I think that's just a statement to cover their ass if you blow your engine... |
RE: Engine question
yeah....i wanted to know problems that will occur if
A. there isn't the recomended shim amount under the head B. What type of glow plug(or in my case turbo) you use during certain weather conditions C. If car is run at different temps outside with no change I also wanted to know if i had more options than head shims and colder plugs [sm=punching.gif] why did i get so many hot plugs during winter[&o] |
