2.5 engine trouble

Hey, My 2.5 traxxas engine is really acting up. Or maybe I'm just doing this wrong. When I start it up, it run great for a few minunts, then starts acting sluggish. Then It gets to where I can't go wot without the engine dieing. Also, my engine smokes a lot from the glow plug area, is this normal?

you might be running your engine to rich turn the needle valve in about a quarter of a turn

The engine should not at any cost leak anything from the glow plug area. If it does it means that the compression is being leaked which effects the engine's performance. you may have over tightened the plug and damaged the head grooves. Take the Glow plug put and check that the plug wahser is placed properly between the plug and the head.

Smoking from the muffler is normal as big engines tend to smoke more.

If your trx 2.5 is smoking from the plug area you may be overheating. Too lean. Try setting to factory specs and get a temp gauge. then tune. Factory specs are hsn, 4 turns out and lsn flush w/ carb slide.

When you take out the glo plug it is very easy to forget about copper washer, make sure before you remove the plug the area aroung is clean as you dont want any bits of crap in your engine (a killer for sure).
It could also be that the washer is sat on some dirt and not sealing if this is the case the washer is more than likely scrap(quite delicate).
Never overtighten the plug, the aluminium when it heats up does a very good job of sealing the steel plug.

How old is the truck?
