Need Engine Opinion
I currently have an OS Vspec which is giving me alot of problems. I am new to nitro and would rather have an engine that is easy to maintain but still have some kick. I have been pointed in the RB direction but I am open for opinions.
Thank you for all your help. JM |

Yes I am a very competetive racer but turning the wrenches isn't my best skill. Will the motor you are suggesting fair well against Vspec's or the like?
Thank you Justin |
RE: Need Engine Opinion
That Vspec is a fine engine. If you are having problems, take a look at the manual that came with it. There is a problem if it is not running correctly. O.S. Engines are noted for their performance and reliablity. If you completely give up on the O.S., better send it to me...:D.

RE: Need Engine Opinion
Isnt there a problem with the OS bearings? I hear that they are prone to air leaks and such. If that is the case, ur engine will be impossible to tune. I don't have much experience with OS but from what I hear they are known for ease in tuning. If urs wont tune, check for air leaks or a bad bearing. Hope thjis helps.

Being that your New to this, I think the question to ask is if you played with any of the original settings... Most O.S. Engines come out of the box (if you did build your car.) with settings at the break-in points....
Suggestions. Read the manual and make sure all your settings are back to the recomended break in point. The hardest one to get back perfect is the IDLE screw, you may need a gauge tool for that. The engine should run a little rich (Fuel dripping from the exhaust (only) and blowing alot of smoke. Think to check: 1. GOOD Igniter (This gets me all the time) I make sure i have one trickle charging all the time. And one in my bag. 2. GOOD GLOW PLUG: Take it out of the head (carefully) and push it into the Igniter and Make sure you see a BRIGHT Orange Glow coming from the COIL. (make sure not to have your finger on the tip you could get burned) I take no responsiblity if you do[sm=rolleyes.gif] ) 3. Make sure your fuel Line is not kinked and you have no air bubbles in it. 4. Make sure your fuel tank is air tight. ( you can do this by using new hoses connected to in/out ports blow into the in tube while holding the out tube if you hear a hiss come from the out tube when released you can be sure the tank is some what air tight. 5. Make sure your Igniter is good. 6. MAKE sure your Igniter is good. 7. MAKE SURE YOUR IGNITER CHARGED! ANyway good luck welcome to the hobby, and stay interested dont give up, it gets much easier!!! thats my advise, i'm sure I heard it hear at one point!!! |
