pull start tips
 

im new to the pull start and i was wondering if there were any good tips out there for having it fire up real fast. anything from proper technique for priming, pulling, or other helpful tricks. any kind of assistance would be greatly appriciated. thanks

if you use after run oil in the engine do about 3 pulls before priming to clear that out, do short quick pull of no more than 10 inches, and when priming, bring fuel just up to the carb, and then a little bit more, then start cranking, the most common problem is overpriming, and having a fully charged glow ignitor makes a world's difference too

Loosen the glow plug about 1/2 turn or more to relieve some compression when starting cold. When the engine fires, tighten it back up. It is good insurance againt breaking the cord.

On new engines w/ pull starters, don't even think of stating it up unless the plug is loosened AND you have heated the engine up thoroughly with a hair dryer.

yeah see i have blisters between every finger on my right hand from trying to start up my new .27 engine from cold. the pinch on that thing is so great that sometimes i lift the whole car up even with a foot on the tire. so half a turn looser on the glow plug and prime just up to the carb and then a little more in. heating up the engine with a hair drier seems like over kill at this point because my engine is pretty much broken in. but are there any other good tips or is it as simple as that?

hey is there anyone that can help me. just brought a ct4s and im trying to break in the engine, im completly incopetent at the momement, iv neva owned a nitro car so i need all the help i can get. how do i turn the engine off, must i wait for the feul to finish or wat???

actually heating it up would help even though its broken in, i have had to do it to my broken in engines before too

You can shut the engine off by pinching the fuel line near the carby.

Or cover the stinger - usually cuts the engine out a bit quicker than pinching the fuel line (just try not to burn your finger in the process :eek:)

they have quick kill stinger plugs that you can buy at hobby shops. just shove the stopper in the stinger and it kills the engine

Some engines take 1/2 to one gallon to be broken in such that the cord isn't that tight to pull. When shutting down, keep the piston at the bottom dead center.

I say it ain't broken in completely.

Loosen plug, backout plug 1/2 turn or more, warm with hair dryer, and complete the break-in properly by heat cycling. Get temps up to 200 plus then let 'er cool with piston at BDC.

By the time you are done this several times and have driven and tuned it to get max performance, 1/2 gallon should be gone.
