break-in problems
I'm currently performing the break-in of my car. I have no trouble starting the car, but when I add any throttle it cuts right off. Any help with this problem will be very helpful.

RE: break-in problems
The car is loading up excessively at idle. Start by leaning the hs needle out about 1/8 of a turn and leave your glow ignitor on just for the added heat to the plug and gently blip until you can get it to rev up. If it still won't, lean out a bit more on top. Don't bother with the low speed yet because the HSN will take care of both until you need to start the tuning for performance.

RE: break-in problems
It could be lean or rich. Most new engines i get have the LSN set so lean it will start but quit when the throttle is advanced.
How does it sound when it quits? If it gurgles/hesitates ect with an extremely slow advance of the throttle then it is too rich. If it bogs out, then it is too lean. Also try the LSN pinch test if you wish. It won't hurt. Pinch the fuel line 1/2 inch away from the carb too kill the engine. If the engine quits in 0-2sec then its too lean. If its over 3 seconds its too rich. 2-3 seconds will be in the ballpark. This is just to get you in the general area. Once break-in is complete, tune to sound and performance Only. Ryan |
RE: break-in problems
If it cuts out and dies immediatly, the low speed needle may be too lean or you have a fuel restriction.
If it cuts out after spitting and gurgling for a bit, then its probably too rich on the low speed side. |
