RE: Engine Picking??
whats it going in??
|
RE: Engine Picking??
Its going in a GS Storm modified truggy
|
RE: Engine Picking??
do they even make a Orion Wasp 21. I thought they only made a 21 small block and a 28 big block???
|
RE: Engine Picking??
LRP Z.28R Spec 3 Engine would be a good engine for you, and right within your budget.
|
RE: Engine Picking??
thanx ill look into that one can u give me a link where to find one?
|
RE: Engine Picking??
I was also looking at the Ofna Hyper .21 8 port from Towerhobbies for only $130. My freind has one and it rocks........ but it also runs very hot like around 280 to 320 degrees?
|
RE: Engine Picking??
Those are alright. We had one of the stockers from the Jammin CRT and when it ran good, it was good, but more often than not, it was running very hot (300+ range), and couldn't find the air leak..
Instead of messin around, we just dropped a Ninja in it... screams... none-the-less its a good engine for the money, disposable as we call them :) |
RE: Engine Picking??
is the LRP faster than the Ofna? And is the LRP worth the 150$ because im only a kid who cant afford an expensive motor?
|
RE: Engine Picking??
gsfreak I know how you feel, I'm 14 and I just got a CRT and had to pay for it my self, but luckily I got somthings used for a good price.
If you don't want to spend alot then take a look into STS engines http://www.projectzen.net/index.html (if some of his links don't work then e-mail him, He spends most of his time with orders and not to much time with his site) and heres another place http://stsmicroengines.com/index.php?main_page=index I hace two of them, and I don't thank I'm ever going to buy anything else, but I might maybe, but not anytime soon. |
RE: Engine Picking??
Cool, how is the sts d21b or d21e do they keep up to the other trucks or buggys at your track? Have u had any problems with your STS?
|
RE: Engine Picking??
I have the 21B and the 30, and I have never had a problum with either one. theres one guy on the form named 46u he big into racing and all he uses is the 21B in his buggy, he has one stock 21b and ong modded 21B.
the STS engines are fast and I heard that if you have a problum you can talk to a guy at the STS factory and get the problum fixed. They keep up with some guys at my local track but I'm not big into racing, I'm only raced once a two years ago, but I do it more for a hobby then anything and its fun. you also will want to buy a STS pipe if not you want get full power out of them |
RE: Engine Picking??
Look around. That LRP is a great engine.
but again google it. and search here. as for faster... So many things define how fast one car is from another... what pipe/header combo do you plan to run? whats your gearing? what plugs and fuel do you run? all these play into that. Keep that in mind. But you will notice much more power being generated at the flywheel. |
RE: Engine Picking??
I just got a great ofna pipe on Ebay that should make heck of a difference. Oh On your guyses cars what tooth clutch do u use?
|
RE: Engine Picking??
depends on the race and/or terrain at hand..
anywhere from 15-18. i have left my 8ight alone its gear combo is very universal to my liking. But your going to have to choice what one you like best. and your driving style may come into play when making that choice. Start off first by playing with some diff locker oil weights to get the power transfer that you want. - however thats also digging your own grave becuase you will be re-oiling them after every outting :| only reason i say that is so that you start off learning how to tune your already tunable chassis to drive like you want it. With a new engine and chassis tuned to your liking then the "faster" part of things will come right along with that. |
RE: Engine Picking??
myrcsupply do u personally like the sts engines because im considering the sts 21B? JB COMP has one and he says its great? what do u know about it?
|
RE: Engine Picking??
I started a breakin one of the First .28s that they had. It blew a conrod right thought the block. I dont blame myself, however some might..
I believe something was internally wrong although my pre-fire inspection was clean... defect in the conrod materials? cheap materials? i dont know. I just moved on to a different engine. Please dont take this as a note to not look into there engines. I have heard good things about them, we just dont stock them.. |
RE: Engine Picking??
No manufacture makes 100% perfact engines theres always going to a few bad ones your going to run into and have problums, and did you talk to STS and see if they would replace it?
I hav heard a few bad things about the LRP aswell, one guy said he could only get 5mins on a 150cc tank. I can get 8 running break-in setting on my STS 30. I use a 14 tooth CB in my buggy, and works good. I have heard the STS engines will keep up with the $300+ but I have not had the chance to run with a guy that has a $300+ engine to test that, oh on STS engines take break-in slow drive it easy for a gallon maybe two before its comepletly broke in. when its broke in they say you can pull the plug out and you should be able to turn the engine over with no effert (with the PLUG OUT) let me know if you get an STS engine and I can send you the break-in method I use. gsfreak what ofna pipe did you get? |

ORIGINAL: JB COMP No manufacture makes 100% perfact engines theres always going to a few bad ones your going to run into and have problums, and did you talk to STS and see if they would replace it? I hav heard a few bad things about the LRP aswell, one guy said he could only get 5mins on a 150cc tank. I can get 8 running break-in setting on my STS 30. No i didnt talk to STS about it. It was a tester engine from a US distro that was carrying them. I didnt even bother, at that time i was liking the SH .28's low end... Your friend that only got 5mins from his tank... He needs to do some checking. Even with an engine running as rich as it can, i dont see it burning that quickly. i dont believe it to be physically possible to keep the enigne running when tring to push that much fuel through it.. maybe he should check for leaks? both engine and tank? Im running a smaller tank than that and get good times from a full tank. And as always personal preference plays alot. nitro engines are soo damned finiky. How many ports is your .30? |
RE: Engine Picking??
I don't really know the with the LRP I read it on a form.
My 30 has 5-ports, and I can't wait till I finsh break-in and really start running it. and the 8mins is leaving about a 1/4 - 1/2in. in the bottum of the tank. |
RE: Engine Picking??
So ur saying a break in should last 1 to 2 gallons? Thats unheard-of I break my engines in in 5 to 6 tanks! I've had my engine for 2 years and it stll runs fine. The pipe I got is the Ofna (Ho Bao) Hyper 8 pro polished tuned pipe i'll be getting it very soon. Hey My RC suply what kind of r/c car do u have and what engine is it?
|
RE: Engine Picking??
do any of you know about the sts D21E? It's the cheapest .21 they have?
|
RE: Engine Picking??
I have quite a few. And even more engines. too many to list..
Im curently running my 8ight with a Draked pro .28. and then im running the wasp .28 , K.28HO, Ninja .28 in the savages. those are the ones i drive the most often. |
RE: Engine Picking??
probally 1 gallon. the 21E is the lowest version of the STS 21, its a three port, and its got a different crank. you will be better off with the 21B or 21T MKii
|
RE: Engine Picking??
How does the Wasp .28 do against the other engines? If it is under 200$ please give me a link to look at it
