Flywheel Removal

I just purchased an Hpi Light Weight Flywheel to replace the stock one on my Hpi T-15 engine. I've managed to get the pilot shaft off but the flywheel seems to still be stuck to the crankshaft. It has never been off the car before so I'm not sure if I should just yank on it or what. Any idea's on what it's stuck on? Again it's on an Hpi T-15 engine.

you can use a hammer and lightly tap around the fly wheel till it starts comming off or you can go to the auto parts store and get a battery terminal puller and they work get for that. You can see here that I am using it to remove rims that are hard to get off but it does just as good on the fly wheel too.

smack it with a hammer, it'll pop loose, those things can really get stuck on there

Alright, I've managed to remove the flywheel. Now All I have to do is install the new one. One problem though, of course, it doesn't want to fit over the crankshaft. I can get the flywheel about half way down the collet, but it doesn't want to go any further. Is their a technique, or do I just put some muscle into it and jam it on there?

Hi,

I have the lightweight flywheel myself... i think i know what it is.. My flywheel doesnt go all the way in aswell because its not supposed too. I was wondering aswell when i first tried to install it. Notice how the stock flywheel is very thick/fat and the collet sits flush into it which makes it sit closer to the bearings

Unless you really cant fit in properly on your one...

I hope this pic helps

I've tried everything to get the flywheel to sit further back, but it won't budge. I tried removing the washer behind the collet, but it doesn't seem to help much at all. Because the flywheel is sitting a little ahead of the old one, it's making the gearing not line up properly. Any help would be appreciated. Here are the pics, hopefully they can show you the problem.

That should be fine. I've run with collets that are WAY off and they have still held up. What I would do though is remove the spacer behind the collet to align the gears properly.

Mine lined up okay on the stock t-15 and my OS now. Im using the exact flywheel as you. I did also take out the washer behind the collet. I have about a 1.5mm gap between the 1st and 2nd gear. It looks like it kinda overlaps the usual gear mesh but it still works fine for me
