Why zip ties???

I was wondering, why does everyone put zip ties on top of their cooling head(the top fin). And, would a zip tie melt at 300 degrees? Thanks!

I would think that at worst conditions the bottom of the cooling head will get up to 300, but i wouldnt bet that the top could get that hot..

Its a minor buffer to help protect the heat sinks. But a good skid on the lid and the zip ties will simply scartch off ant the heat sink will get scarred anyway.
