rebuilding an engine
I want to take apart my engine and clean it out real well.
What are good things to use to clean the parts? I've heard people using denatured alcohol or wd-40, and just scrubbing it or letting it soak. Are these good enough? And what exactly is motor spray, and is there something else that will have a similar effect? Merci |
RE: rebuilding an engine
Use the alchohol and a tothbrush to throroughly scrub out everything. I would not use WD40, but if there is caked on goo from afterrun oil and/or nitro fuel that has dried up in there, I guess WD40 can be used to help penetrate that gunk. Then, use the alchohol to clean throroughly. Before reassembling, lightly coat the parts with afterrun oil.

denatured alcohol is the only thing I ues.

RE: rebuilding an engine
I dont even use that, I just dissassemble everything down to the last piece, wash everything with warm water, rebuild and lube with after-run oil[8D]

Just WD-40 the internals and lube it up with some oil afterwards. |
RE: rebuilding an engine
I use brake cleaner to get rid of the oil or gunk, then when rebuilding, I use silicone oil for the bearings, after run oil for the crankshaft, piston con rod, pin, and sleeve. Just make sure that the internals are fully oiled before cranking it. These are just my own or pesonal observation or preference.

RE: rebuilding an engine
Ok WD-40 wont hurt anything, I just rebuilt my VX-18 with it and it still runs. All WD-40 does is remove water and lubes up parts for a small time(burns off very fast)but after that the oil in the fuel will keep it all running smoth. Soak the parts with WD-40 in a baggy(keep pison separate) every once in a while or when your not going to use it for a long time.

Exactly, as long as you wash the parts, then dry them with a rag, they will be fine, let the rest air dry.. Lube it up when you put it together. And Jato, I think if all of my engines have survived with this method, it works;) I would never give advice that I wasnt sure about[8D]
