Engine Seize!! Please help
i have a new xt2 pro buggy with a .28 engine, it runs well temp is always usually good and there is always plenty of smoke coming from the exhaust
can anyone help me why my engine has seized up for the second time?? ive removed the glowplug and sprayed CRC into it to try and lubricate it a bit any other help would be greatly appreciated. |
RE: Engine Seize!! Please help
Have you taken the head and backplate off? It could be a snapped conrod or something.
|
RE: Engine Seize!! Please help
i doubt it because its the second time its done it
last time i just jot a screwdiver and levered the clutch wheel thing on the bottom and it broke it free but im having more trouble this time [&o] |
RE: Engine Seize!! Please help
Oh. Have you broken in the engine?
|
RE: Engine Seize!! Please help
yea broke it in 3 tanks on 1/4, 3 on 1/2, 1 on 3/4, it was running well
but now it just seized again and it wont budge this time so yeh im quite pissed of at the moment. |
RE: Engine Seize!! Please help
It could be stuck at TDC. Take the head off of the engine and see if the piston is at the very, or near, top of the sleeve. If it is, just push the flywheel with some pliers or something. That's because your engine still hasn't been broken in all the way.

RE: Engine Seize!! Please help
nah the pistons at the bottom of the sleeve
so yeh im kinda stumped |
RE: Engine Seize!! Please help
Take off the backplate and see how the conrod and crankshaft are.

RE: Engine Seize!! Please help
ill do it later, i cant be bothered working on it now

happened to me today what is happening is that actually the metal kinda somehow is trying to turn. This is bad you have to take off the head and carberator and get a rubber malatte and get something that wont damage your piston then bang it down. I have 12 years experience with hotrods and 8 years experience nitro rc. Lisen to me when I say that. But make sure first that is isnt something damaged. PS you might have to break in the engine again if you screw up. BTW if that dont work then you have to open the back of the engine up because believe it or not some 2 stroke engines could get a airpocket that wont release and will deffinately be strong enough to hold your engine.
One last thing if your exaust is open (which if it isent then dont do this) then just take alittle nitro and put it in the block when you have the heatsink off then put it back on and ignite it. That broke my engine free in an instant though there are risks to this method. |
RE: Engine Seize!! Please help
thanks for the ideas,
hopefully one of these will work its only a week and a bit old ill check if its covered on warranty but i highly doubt it. |
RE: Engine Seize!! Please help
i had a similar problem in my CEN... turned out to be the piston sleeve in the cylinder... obviously during manufacture they didn't grind back the burrs formed when drilling the transfer ports... if the top of your piston seizes and you take the top of your engine and can see half of the exhaust port, this could be the problem, the piston catches on the top edge of the transfer port. all i did tou fix it was to get some reasonably fine sandpaper and sand off the inside edge of the ports in the piston sleeve.. runs like a dream now

Your engine will not be fully broken in until it has reached about the half gallon mark. When doing a break-in of any engine, especially during the initial break-in and up until the engine is fully boken in, it is very important that you preheat the engine. Get a hobby grade engine preheater gun or even a hair dryer and try to preheat it to 200 degrees F. (A hair dryer cannot get that hot, but it sill help loosen the cold engine by heating it to where the sleeve diameter will expand some.) |
RE: Engine Seize!! Please help
1st of all i dont know wat a gallon is in litres but just below 4 litres has been run through it
2nd it was kinda cold outside it had rained and the road was still a tad damp so this may factor into it |
RE: Engine Seize!! Please help
When something is in immense ammount of heat it expands but when it cools down that rapidly it shrinks, I think that happened to you so what you need to do is apply heat then bang down the piston, this will require complete teardown of the engine, also when you apply the heat make sure you dont burn it because the metal will become softer and easier to mess up.

RE: Engine Seize!! Please help
Is it the S.H. 28 with the black head? I had problems with mine. I think it was the crank if I can remember.

RE: Engine Seize!! Please help
ORIGINAL: Xt2 pro ill do it later, i cant be bothered working on it now the only way to tell what's wrong is to take it apart and look if you can't be bothered to do that then you won't find out what's wrong as far as warranties go rc companies are usually pretty good so if something is broke which i suspect it is they may help you out |
RE: Engine Seize!! Please help
Thunderbird... yes it is the .28 engine with the black head
well its just that i dont have much time to go to the hobby shop because 1 of work and 2 its a fair way away so thats why i cant be bothered but ill get around to it eventually |
