Noob engine consistancy
 

I just had some problems with my rc, but it got resolved but meow i cant get my engine to stay idle for more than 2-3 seconds.
I am still in the breakin period. I have a .18 engine. I have my high speed needle set to rich but could still be richer. when it starts fuel also shoots out of the exhaust. Can anyone help? Also how many turns out should i have the high speed needle from fully closed/leanest. Thanks !

You need to find the factory needle settings for your carburetor. Goto the manufacturer of your cars website, and find the engine manual for said vehicle. Put the needles back to the factory settings (My LRP .28 engine is 3 3/4's both low and high) and maybe turn up your idle a little bit to help keep it running. Oh, and read some faqs.

Sounds as if the engine is running far too rich. You certainly don't want to run it lean during breakin, but you don't want it excessively rich either.

I c , so there is such thing as too rich for breakins. So should i be breaking it in on the factory settings?

Definately, too rich and it won't get up to the required temps for the engine to be broken in properly - or it simply won't stay running. Factory settings generally require some degree of adjustment to account for the temp/fuel/humidity when breaking in as this will vary from area to area, and even time of day.

So i am able to get it to run for about 3/4 of a tank before it dies. Also there is fuel coming out the exhaust. Should i be leaner or richer?

You will get fuel out the exhaust and its not much fuel its more oil. You also dont want to do the idle method of break in. You need to run the truck and get it up to temps as quick as you can. You can also lean out the needles just a tad to get things going. After every tank and every cool down make sure you put the piston at BDC. After every tank you can also lean out the needles a little. Once you get about 4-5 tanks tune it and let it rip.

Running too rich is just as bad as running lean.
