2.5 problems
Ok, i pulled out my 2.5 tmaxx today to do some runnin around. I put my glow plug warmer in and pull the pull cord and it fires up after the 2nd pull, but, everytime i take off the glow plug warmer the engine dies. is this a sign of a bad glow plug? also, when it does start it idles really high even though i have the idle set screw set to 1mm or even less. i just cant get a good tune to this engine at all. when it did run with out the glow plug woes, it would die everytime i gave it throttle. any help?

RE: 2.5 problems
The engine stalling when the igniter is removed is a good sign the plug needs changed.
A high idle with a 1mm gap or less indicates the LSN is too lean, which could also cause the engine to stall when throttle is applied. |

If the idle is high and the idle screw is set to a small opening( I assumed you checked it by taking the air filter off), then it's too lean. Sounds way to lean. As we always say go back to factory settings on all the jets LSN and HSN and try again. If it starts and runs at a reasonable idle but still dies when you pull of the glow igniter then change the glow plug. Sometimes after awhile of adjusting the needles for different days etc. we end up forgetting what the needles are set to. If you are still having problems try changing the fuel lines, a leak can cause a lean mixture as well. Jim |

Jim it runs like complete crap at stock settings, 4 turns out from seated on the highspeed and flush on the low speed. |

"it runs like complete crap at stock settings, 4 turns out from seated on the highspeed and flush on the low speed."
If thats the case, you'll need to tune it untill it runs well again, stock settings are usually just to get the engine to run (rich) and not perform. And like Snook said, replace the plug. |

RE: 2.5 problems

RE: 2.5 problems
I was wondering about that LSN, cause last time I turned it, it looked flushed but i still had the same problem you had, but all I had to do was turn it 1/2 a turn and now she's runnin fine :D
With the second gear, look at the manual on page 38, it will tell you how to adjust the tranny so that second gear will shift earlier. |
