Hi Bob,

I'm installing KS canisters on mine. You can see the pics on the website I've got the headers already, but I'm still waiting for the cans. Hopefully they'll show up in another 1-2 weeks.

I decided to go with cans because I wanted to try to keep the noise down. I also just love the sound of a twin on cans....plus they just look cool!

I'm looking forward to seeing more pics of your build....keep 'em comin!

HI Scott's Dad!! You're more than welcome to come check it out anytime. I'm hoping to have it ready to cover in a couple more weeks....I can't wait to get it in the air!
I just put the whole thing together for the first time last night and got really pumped up about getting it finished. Still a lot of work to do yet, but it's really been a fun build.

It's been long enough since I built a plane from a kit that i forgot how satisfying it is to see something I built from a pile of sticks sitting on my workbench. While all the ARF's are nice, i just get way to picky on a project this size and decided I was better off building it myself. Then if it's screwed up, I can only blame myself!

I am buiding a Carden 35% extra 330 also, I have it built to about the same stage as yours. I will post some pics later today. I am using a DA-100, MTW canisters and Headers from DA. The exhaust system is really nice , I just got it and it included everything I needed to install it. The canisters have the inlets and the 90 Degree exits on the same end (frt) of the canister. I am installing it now as well as mounting the cowl.Good to see someone else building the same kit at the same time, thanks for the great pics, Jack.

Thanks for the comments George. Post some pics of your build...I love to see how others build the same kit.

I made some decent progress over the weekend. Got the elevators separated and hinged, the fin fairings on and filled, and painted the cockpit area. Today I want to get the bottom rear hatch sanded and sheeted...and that should just about wrap up the tail of the plane.

JMIRACLE,

I am building the same airframe, but installing a Jetcat Turbo Prop. There are pics in the Jet forum under "Jetcat Turbo Prop"

I use to fly with the "Spirit of America" show team based in Findlay.

Best regards,
Ron Ballard

Turbo Prop installation. Notice I have used wooden dowels to "pin" the firewall. Aeropoxy used thruout on the motor box assembly.

I'll second that.....the tubro-prop install looks very cool. When you get that completed, you should swing by the Findlay club again and put on a little show for us.

Lookin good Jack. Do you have any more pictures of your cowl instal? I'm just now starting to think about this step and I'm having a bit of trouble visualizing it. I'm most curious about how the top half fits to the bottom. I understand the screws through the side...but having trouble visualizing how the L-brackets for the top half play into the whole setup.

What kind of thrust will you get from a turbo prop? That is really cool!

JMiracle- here are some pics of the cowl mounting , I installed my upper cowl brackets opposite the plan,so that I could use a long allen wrench the I made up, to remove the bolt through the frt opening. This allows you to remove the top of the cowl without taking the canopy off. The plywood cowl pieces get glassed into the cowl, tack glue them with ca, remove and then glass it in. I didn't tack glue mine yet, remember to leave a 1/16 gap between the cowl and the fuse. The lower cowl is removed through a small access hole 1/8'' using an allen wrench( see the black dot in the picture). Good luck , Jack.

Jack, thanks for the pics. I just spent most of my evening working out the cowl mounting. I don't have anything final, but I now understand exactly how it's supposed to work. Your pictures just helped verify I did it right.

Max rpm on the turbine is 170,000 rpm. It produces 54 pounds of thrust with a 25 X 12 3 blade prop. Max shaft speed after reduction is around 7800 to 8100 rpm but we have found that decreasing the turbine output to a shaft speed of 6500 rpm keeps the temps in check
(625 degrees)
The powerplant produces virtually no vibration. And you start it from your transmitter!!

Ron Ballard

How is the build coming Jack, I am building the same plane not as far along as you yet but getting there. What servo arrangement are you going to use. I have a self adjusting servo tray for the rudder coming from SWB which will use 2 JR 8611's still not sure about the wings though!

Brit, I have the self adjusting servo tray from SWB also , using two JR 8611's on the rudder. nice system plenty of power. All of my other servos are JR 8411's, 2 on each aileron, 1 on each elevator half. I just got the Emcotec DPSI mini power interface, from Desert Aircraft at the WRAM show this weekend in NY. I will be two Li -Ion battery packs, and 1 reciever. The ignition will have a li-Ion pack and its own regulated switch. I still have to sheet the wings yet. Good luck on yours, Jack.

Thanks Jack, I will use two 8611,s on each aileron as I originally planned I was thinking of going single on each side as I have seen it done this way but common sense will prevail

I have seen the single servo set up but am worried about flex more than anything I am going to extend the ailerons by 4" for a total of 44" for a little extra 3-D power I would rather use two servos in this situation. What do you think?

Yes if you are extending the ailerons I think the 2 servo setup would be better, Thats a long span for one servo to control, with out flexing the aileron .Jack

Today I tried to setup my CG on my Carden 330 35%. To my amazement the airplane is very tail heavy. Total wgt 29.5 lbs. My engine is 3w106 with 3W pipes and cannisters. I was using 7.25 as the balance point. It would take about two pounds to balance at this CG. The only thing I can move forward is my batteries.

I would like to hear from anyone that has balanced their airplane. Thanks for any help with this problem.[&o]

OK....it's been a long while since i've posted anything on this so thought I'd throw up a pic of the fuse so far. I've got the majority of the covering done on the fuse...still have yellow to put on the nose.
