Default Servos for 35%carden Extra

I am just about to start on my Carden 35% Extra. I am thinking about what servos to use. I have always used Hitec Metal geared servos in the past in several Turbine models, and would probably use them in this model. I have read about flutter on these large models with large control surfaces. What size (torque and speed) is everyone using on this size model. I would like to be safe and not have to worry about servo overload etc. My thoughts at the moment is to use 5625 or 5925 on six volts, two on each aileron and two on the rudder.

Then I have looked at the Titanium gear servos, or is that a bit of overkill?.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks

the 56XX series of servos are sport digitials and should NOT be used in a carden.

you could use 2 5945's for each aileron and on the rudder and then use 5955's for the elevators. but if it were me, i would just use 5955's all the way around. they might be a slight overkill, however they should last a long time. if you were to use the 5945's you would be replacing the gear train more often due to wear on the splines.

Hey Tom , your right , flutter is the enemy!! The amount of power to resist movment is more important than the torque to move the surface. The 5945 and 5955 have the power to hold all at center and prevent flutter . I have a 35% Carden Cap with 5945s all the way round on 6 volts . I fly this wide open most the time and have never had a problem.

I use Hitec 5955's on all my Cardens and they work flawless.

I would think the 5945's would be plenty though the rudder you might want 5955's. I have flown many 35% planes doing some serious 3D on 5945's and have not had a problem. The 40% Carden Cap I bought had 5945's on it and it was flying for at least 3 years on those no problems.

The 5985 is the replacement for the 5945 with some marked improvements so you might consider that. If you think you need 5955's all around then go for it.

Tom,

I'm flying the Carden 35% Extra with 5955's on the Elevators, 5955's on the Rudder and 5945's on the Ailerons and perfect performance with two Gallons thru it so far. With four servo's on the wings, it's almost a 1 oz. savings using the 5945's and you still have 362 oz's of torque on each side. Good luck with the build.

regards, Ward
