I did a google image search and found a screen capture of a video game cockpit
for an Extra 300. I copied the picture and started editing in paint shop.

If you look around you could find higher resolution pictures but this was fine for me.

I relaxed an backed off the build for a couple of weekends.

Over the last couple of days I made the motor stand-off's and mounted
the motor and cans. I used stainless steel sheet metal screws to prevent the
cans from rotating due to vibration.

I also set up the throttle and choke servos and linkage in both planes. Now that
the linkage is in place I will glue the top of the motor box in place and mount the
ignition module.

I will get the props drilled and the spinners cut in a day or two.

Pilot's installed...

I used Velcro straps to hold him in place, copied Walt on Wayne's build. The velcro holds
them in pretty tight, I don't think they will move.

On the underside of the canopy I added some balsa supports help hold the straps in place.

I worked on the servo installation and wiring over this hot weekend. All the servo's
are install except the 2 rudder servo's in the red plane.

Once that was complete I finished installing my cowl, prop, spinner and got the plane ready
for an initial balance test.

I used a scale and weighed each wheel and did the calculations. It looks like the blue plane is
38.375 pounds and the CG sits at 33.86" from the tip of the spinner. That equals 1/4" in front
of the wing tube. The plans call for 1/2" to 5/8" in front of the wing tube so I am real close.

I hope to have all the remaining hardware by the middle of the week so I can start setting up
the controls.

What batteries are you going to use? I need some batteries for a project, and just found out Fromeco can't get Li-Ion cells anymore! Anyone have any good substitutes?

I am using a pair of 5200 Fromoco Li-ion's and regulators for the Rx and one 2400
for the ignition. I purchased them a couple of months ago.

I don't doubt that! They are very nice planes and I wish at least one was mine.

I will be in the US this upcoming week, I REALLY think you should test fly at least one of them during that time period

I don't think they will be ready next week. I just received a bunch more
hardware. The list off the top of my head:

1) make the radio trays
2) plumbing the tanks
3) installing the control rods
4) make up and install the control links
5) install the radio equipment
6) install regulators and batteries
7) Install the servo arms
8) program all the servo's
9) make up a few more extensions
10) start setting up the radio and throws
11) install the ignition battery and switch

I am sure there is more that I have forgotten.

I will be running an AR9100 Rx and Kurt will be running duel
Rx's on Ham Band.

We will both be running Fromoco Wolverine switches for the power
and Badger switches for the engines. No regulators required on
the ZDZ ignitions.

Kurt, happy Fathers Day!!! Your plane is ready to be picked up!!!

You will have a few things left to do, but not much. Fuel lines, linkage
adjustments, route your antenna's, and programming, thats about it!!!

You can pick it up in the afternoon.

The last 2 pictures are of my Rx mounted over foam.

I have been following your build thread from the start. I have a Cuda waiting to be built (long story), and have been looking for tips and ideas. I have to say that your standard of workmanship is absolutely stunning!! You have built two truly beautiful examples of the Carden Aircraft.

Thanks to you for spending the time to document your processes/experiences. It has really inspired me to get my finger out and get mine completed.

Thunderbolts, thank you very much.

I have officially completed my plane today... Saturday, June 21 at 12:50 PM.

I have all the servos and Radio programmed, plumbing complete with a home made
fuel dot, Tail wheel hooked up, and batteries mounted in a temporary fashion until
the final CG is determined.

I might assemble it and start up the engine later today if I have time.

I will post pictures of the maiden after that happens.

Dude, bring they puppy out on Friday of next week. I will be a the field if you need a hand. Can't wait to see it fly. I will hold the camera

I was out last night and got 4 flights on the 260 yesterday. I have to move the CG back toward the nose as she is a little tail heavy. Still flew nice, but not as nice as your twins will.

Just curious, why is your tailwheel mounted backworks? Beautiful plane, you are a true craftsman.

Thanks again for taking the time to do a whole build thread to show us your great building techniques.

I think it's just the camera playing tricks... It has a slight bend to it and it is pointed to the rear.

OK guys, I was able to get out and do the maiden flight today!!
It was uneventful just like I hoped. The plane flies like a dream
and I am very pleased with the outcome!

Now we need to get Kurt's plane flying!!!
