I only have 5 tanks through it to break it in. We are going to the park today and I am going to tune it a little. So far, the compression is a lot better. The stock motor never had this much compression even new. I will post back later and let you know how it goes. Thanks.

I think I heat cycled it (may sound odd, but I am still figuring all this out). I did not use the sock method, but I did make sure my temps got up around 190 to 200 degrees and putted around in circles with thick smoke and a little xtra fuel coming out the exhaust. After each run, I made sure the piston was at BDC or close to it and waited till the motor reached room temp to refill. I did this for 5 tanks. I am getting a little better at this, but still leaning a lot. This conversion is a night and day difference in the motor. Although, to be fair, it was not running that great before the conversion. But it definetly has more power and speed than the stock motor. I ran 4 tanks through it today and am just getting it close to where I want it. It accelerates smooth, idles great but sputters just a little when it hits 2nd. My temps when the tank runs empty are around 256. When this thing hits 2nd gear, I have no doubts that I am NOT in control. On a WOT acceleration on pavement, it is a little hard to control. The backend fishtails a little, but that may be the tires I have on it. I am running a set of MOAB buggy tires and I think they are not the best for pavement.

This is a great conversion. I am ordering parts for my MT2 and will definitely be upgrading it also. I might even buy a used motor off Ebay to upgrade because the MT2 is running so good as it is. I have seen a couple used NT-16 go for around $30 shipped.

I like this conversion and must say a thank you to everyone on this forum that walked me through it. Definitely worth the $35 in parts.

lol - i like the fishtailing bit! it might be worth looking at different gear ratios to calm it down a bit and exploit the higher torque of the .18 - mind u thats gonna push ur top speed up too...

i found the power more easily controlled offroad than onroad, great for serious powerslides etc.

it may well be spluttering a little as its not quite fully run in yet, give it a few more tanks and maybe a little more leaning out and i feel u may well sort it.

have fun.

It's the stock CEN NT-16 with the .18 conversion.

rccars411, The NT16 and the NT18 (marine engine) share the same block so you can use the P/S, and con rod from the 18 in the 16.

When I did my .18 conversion it took almost a full gallon to fully break-in and I usually ran the motor around 270-280 degrees. Just keep it under 300.

Hmm, Cen was supposed to send a NX18 for me to test in my tmaxx and to give them an honest review on my website. Unfortunately that has yet to happen. All i can ask is, what other .18 does it compare to?

I imagine that the NX .18 would be about the same as the XTM .18 maybe even a little better. The NT16 to 18 conversion is real close to the XTM .18.

Actually the XTM isn't that much lower than the OS CVRX. I have both engines and have ran both in my MT2 so I am speaking about real world performance not what the magazines rate it at.
The XTM would have done better in my truck if I wasn't limited to the nitro TC3 exhaust.
The main reason I went to the OS is because of the side exhaust and the better selection of pipes.

LOL, you missed the .18 shootout then. the XTM could hardly push the Smaxx to 30 mph whereas the os .18 cvrx (what I have in my tmaxx) pushed the truck to 40 mph. The XTM lacks a LOT of power and a decent midrange. The OS is a whole different story.

I don't mean to sound rude but like I said I have personally used both engines. Not read about them but used both engines. I have also read the article and did not agree with it at all because of my experience with both engines.
There are way to many variables (fuel, pipes, tuning, etc.) to explain why there is so much of a difference between the two but I do know that the fuel scob recommendations between the 2 manufacturers is different and if the higher scob is used in the XTM it will degrade performance noticeably and considerably again this is my experience.

I am definitely not saying the XTM is better than the OS but when Hobby People starts blowing them out for 60.00 again I will pick another one up. Cheap and disposable.

I have tried both of them too, but for 30 bucks extra, i could have an engine that'd easily blow the other away.

The stock part number is G70343-04. This is the one that comes stock with the NT-16 motor. The part number for the pin that is sold with the NT-18 is G70344-04. Either one is only about 2 bucks. If you order one, I would go ahead and order the G70344-04 to match the new parts.
