this is what i got so far, i am using a hacksaw blade as a template. i dont have some thin aluminum stock just thick stuff but the hacksaw blade width will work. just drill 4 holes in the chassi and the blade and instant gear cover. there are multiple choices also the pics shone are under the linkages but it will fit over them. think of it as a mini roll bar for the gears, lol.

high temp silicone, the screws are in plastic and always seem to loosen up so i squirted some silicone in them and the little paper cover came off one day so i gave the hole a shot too.

When my pinions wore after a gallon or two, I purchased a couple sets of pinions from totoluci. I have now put several more gallons on the first set from him and they show no signs of wear. He was a pleasure to do business with and shipping to Colorado from Italy was fast and cheap. I'd definitely recommend his pinions (if he has any left!). I am also much, much more vigilant of the gear mesh, so that may help their longevity too.

Blue RVT. I did it in such a way that the plug is reusable. Look in my gallery, there's acuople more surprises there

Our new hardend gears will be released in a few short months! The R&D team tested hardend steel gear for all our race vehicles including the GST. The current gear works and lasts fine but by the third gallon most trucks will need that gear swapped out... the gear is 5 dollars and 60 day warranty customers recieve replacements upon proof of purchase- We thank you guys for your patience with this final component which will seal the deal for the badest truck out there award- we may also change the tank for our next version.
3 easy steps to longer wear on GST gears-
1.Make sure gear mesh has a small amount of back lash- use a tinh pice of paper if you are uncertain
2.Make sure the motor is aligned straight... best way to do this is set the mesh with the pipe disconnected
3.Use a dry lubricant (such as sullivan dry ice) to prolong life and reduce friction and heat

The current pinions are $12-$13 each. And the new hardened ones are going to be $5 each? That is a major price change!

I recon our friend form CEN has just let slip the actual wholesale price for these items, not the sugested retail price.
I hope I am wrong, but I guess we will just have to wait & see!
At least we finally got a reply on the subject!

Hi Guys,
I sent CEN Racing a 'pm', regarding a varied number if issues & recieved a rapid reply to all questions I asked. I have pasted the relevant section to this topic below. Answers in red. (with Andrew's permission to do so!)
So there we have it, an answer from the top!
Can't wait to get my hands on a set,

When are these new gears due for release, & how much will they cost?
Hardened clutch bell gears have been tested and proven much better. With this result we will release hardened gears to our consumers. The current status: We are deciding whether to offer them as upgrades or just running changes to the current gears. Once this decision is made we will begin mass production and distribution worldwide. This will take apx one month before they reach the hobby shops. Shipping time, manufacturing time, packaging time etc, all takes place prior to distribution.
The cost will be a few dollars over the current cost of clutch bell gears. Not much more.

Good job Nitro!!!! It is awsome that you are following this thru...I figured they would have to charge more than the five dollars that was quoted on RCU just the other day. I will still wait patiently.

Hey The Real Dogman,
I see you have changed your name on the official CEN forum to the same as here, now I definately won't have any blonde moments!
I have been thinking about my last post, regarding Andrew (CEN Racing) response,
Just incase this decision hasn't been made already, after some discussion with fellow local CEN GEN/NEM/GST owners, I/we would like to strongly suggest / recommend that CEN should call these new gears just that, New Gears!! They can call them upgrades, tougher gears or what ever you like, but please give them a new part #, so we know we are getting the new good ones, not the older softer versions!
I hope this train of thought is the same, as those whom make the final decision.
What do the rest of you Guys think?
Thanks again CEN Racing for all you your help, & also for addressing this problem!

Hey nitro, yeah you got me to thinking when you made the comment "I kept my name the same here". I thought you know nitro is right. noone will recognize me otherwise, so I asked CEN admin to change it for me, and to their credit they did it quickly and painlessly.
Anyway, here here on the "new" part number. For example: It is a pain in there rear to find the updated axle stubs because the part number is he same, so the vendor ha to look at it to see if he has the new axles, jeeze what was CEN thinking??
BTW, good work tracking this issue!!!

Not particualrily wanting to bash CEN either but they have been saying the same thing about FF pinions for YEARS. I personally wouldn't believe it until it actually happens and somebody other than CEN says that they have them installed.
I have been real sporadic on the forums lately so they might have come out with the FF pinions I don't know, but some how I doubt it.
I personally think CEN has come along way in the last few years, but they have set backs every once in a while and make statements that I find very frustrating.

Hey Rolland good to see ya, CEN has had some issues with who they let speak for them in the past but it seems they are taking action to reign that in.
Last week they seemed to have been active with good quality info and very responsive, lets see how long that lasts...
Dont be such a stranger...
