weak mt2 steering
can someone help , my steering seems to have for some reason gone weak ,its gone so bad i need a huge area to turn around i ve checked everthing , no difference.
has any one tried a high torque servo , can you give me the part no. of a direct replacement high torque servo. that will fit straight into the mt2 with no probs. thanks madmark |
RE: weak mt2 steering
One of two things is the issue. I have had both of these ;-)
1. Your reciever battery is running low. Replace it 2. You need to adjust the steering trim it is a knob on the radio. it has d/r on it. |
RE: weak mt2 steering
Its a problem with the servo... As much as I love the truck, One of the first mods was the steering servo... I used a hi-tech hs645mg... direct fit tons of power... 130oz vs ? for stock... also change to 6v receiver pack due to the extra demands of the servo... You will be happy......Steering is super quick and much tighter than original......
|
RE: weak mt2 steering
Although it will make steering faster, don't think it will make it tighter. the stock servo takes it to the extents of the hub. I have seen a mod to allow tighter steering, but it involves grinding the hub.

RE: weak mt2 steering
try to put the tie rods on the inner holes of the hub mount... That is the only mod I've done to the streering...Also, make sure your end (ball and socket) are mounted on the bottom not the top.... I can turn my truck around in the space of 4 feet easily, can spin around in dirt in less than 2 feet... If you need a larger area than this, something is wrong... I will tell you, the servo will give you greater turning because it forces the wheels to turn more... try some adjustments to the tie rods to make sure both wheels are turning the same amount... If one isn't turning enough, it will increase the radius....

RE: weak mt2 steering
while you are at it, replace the throttle servo also, you will have crisper throttle response and incredible braking... I can front flip my truck if I apply too much brake.... Stoppies are cool......I used the 645mg for this also......
|
RE: weak mt2 steering
thanks cenracer1,
thats exactly what i wanted to hear, so u reckon do the throttle servo as well, will pull stoppie no bother, and who ever told me to check the batteries , c'mon id surely notice that ,plus the fact id probably have a run away truck due to bad reception......................? So u think the steering is way better with the hitec servo, what about at high speeds can it still force the steering to full lock , causing it to flip maybe. thanks madmark. |
RE: weak mt2 steering
The steering is incredible with the hi-tech servo....doesn't matter what speed you are going... It will turn the wheels easily...... Just make sure you run 5 cell rx battery... I use venom 1100mh...lasts forever.. If you use regular alkaline... they only last a few runs... This and replacing the radio are the best thing you can do for the truck..... I did the throttle/brake servo because the stock servo developed fade... Not anymore..... and the best part... these servos are only $40-50 dollars US.....cheap for what they are... I use them in some of my 3d airplanes as well......

RE: weak mt2 steering
Mark, I gave you advice based on my experience. I had low batteries that gave me some response without total loss. I don't know you, so I can't rule out anything. You seemed to totally ignore the adice I gave about the steering throw trim. Don't dump on someone who is trying to help. It sounds to me like you just want an excuse to spend more money. My stock setup will also turn in a 4 foot space.
|
RE: weak mt2 steering
sschuler... I don't believe he was dumping on you... It's frustrating when something doesn't work.... Your truck should turn in about 4 feet from stock, but with a stronger servo, it will do it with authority at any speed........ It is a HUGE diffeerence from stock to hi-torque...This is one of the upgrades that is not considered a waste of money...... As for the steering throw trim... If you are talking about the Mirage radio... That thing is crap.... I threw mine out within about a week.......
|
RE: weak mt2 steering
SSCHULER,
sorry did'nt mean to be so ignorant , just as u say your truck turns in about 4 ft , mine is honestly taking 10 to 12 ft starting from stopt which means their should'nt be any pressure on the servo or very little at least.......... its true crap. so very sorry about seeming so down on u. if've tried a few radio sets to see if anything would help..no not a chance , and as cenracer1 has said the truck can do stoppies no problems it does sound like new servos are worth getting , my steering is so slow every time i run at speed i run the risk of crashing ,u need to be thinking 6,7 sec, ahead for steering , was'nt always like this of course but , is starting to play on my nerves now, and just for the record i dont like to waste money thats why i got on to this forum for some advice.....so once again did'nt mean to dump on u. thanks madmark |
RE: weak mt2 steering
cenracer1
u said these were direct replacements as regarging the fitting , and at that price its surely cheaper than hitting something hard because of steering trouble. thanks for the info, will put it into practice shortly and the truck back to A1 working order thanks madmark. |
RE: weak mt2 steering
Hi-tech as well as futaba servos will fit with no mods at all... The only thing that might be different is the steering arm... The new servo will come with an adaptor if needed..... I don't think yoy will need it........The difference is absolutely amazing.... Gone is the sluggish steering and planning ahead... just crank the steering and turn... Wait till you do your 1st donuts...... Just so you know... The steering is slower when the truck is not moving...

RE: weak mt2 steering
mark, I guess Irishmen are much more gracious than us Americans. I am sorry I flew off the handle. Anyway, back on the subject, I am also actually looking at servos. the 4 foot turns are a low speed. I am looking for faster response time and strength during faster turns. cenracer, have you also changed your radio? I have seen some combos and I am wondering if any of them are any good.
|
RE: weak mt2 steering
don't bother with a combo... you cannot get the proper servo... I don't know why they package them together..... I use a futaba radio 3 channel fm but it doesn't make much difference... I scrapped the cen due to the radio and receiver both breaking within a week of ownership.....
