Titanium Shafts
So i took a long drive to hobby town in Connecticut. and was lookin around and i suddenly saw it.
Titanium Shafts .88 They are made by GPM for the terra crusher. But they are a direct fit on my mt2. anyone notice this or am i slow? lol |
RE: Titanium Shafts
cool - do they fit the cen hubs and diff cups ok?

RE: Titanium Shafts
Are these them?

RE: Titanium Shafts
I will have to go to hobbytown and check these out... too hard to tell by the photo... If they work, they are less than the crappy cen steel ones... I'll know in a few days... Mothers day and all, I can't get to the store...

RE: Titanium Shafts
they come with hubs. although i did have to file the end (ball) flat. I am sorry for saying it was a direct fit. it did take some modding as they are about a quarter inch longer. But the final result was Awsome! I will get some pics for you guys soon

RE: Titanium Shafts
....this may be the answer to our prayers..... :D

RE: Titanium Shafts
It does sound very promising. Pics of your truck would be great, cant wait to see them fitted.

RE: Titanium Shafts
atleast im good for something ;)

RE: Titanium Shafts
alright bad news. fired up the cen this morning and the steering was terrible i mean down right terrible and i say it without a grin on my face. save your 50 bucks
|
RE: Titanium Shafts
What was it that was causing the poor steering? If you had the hubs screwed in too far it reduces the steering quite alot. Just check that the hexagonal screws above and below the hub are allowing enough movement to steer properly. If not, loosen them and this should also ease the tension on the cvd. Just a thought.

RE: Titanium Shafts
aye - lets see some pics - if u got them to fit - we will have to MAKE the bugger work!
|
RE: Titanium Shafts
If you got them to fit and in a position to start the truck up, the problem with the steering should be a relatively easy hurdle to overcome. The option to fit titanium cvds is too tempting a proposition to just give up on. Get some pictures posted and I am sure our collective minds will really mess it up for you!

RE: Titanium Shafts
Im going on vaction today for a few days. I will have my girlfriend snap some pics of it for you guys. (one of the has been removed and i just got frustrated and more pissed off that i lost 50 bucks. lol I tried all kinds of things When you steer it grinds and turns very poorly. so i think i might put this project aside and just goto a machine shop and get some titanium shafts made (much easier)

Would be very interested to know what they would charge to machine some for you. To make that cheaper you could always separate the shaft and the axle by pushing the centre pin out and get the machine shop to only make the shaft part, cause that is the weak part, then join them back together to have half titanium (or stainless steel?) and half original cvd.
I did a bit of research into why the steering is not working with the titanium shaft (see pic) and it seems the centre of the universal (the pivot point) is not lining up with the centre of the pivot balls. This isnt a problem until the wheel tries to turn. So Im guessing if you can make a standard one fit (which you have) they should work fine in the rear to replace those pesky dogbones (only if you dont want any toe in on the rear, but I could live with that). Anyway have a look at the pic, I worked out (roughly) by resizing the photo (i knew the axle must be 5mm dia) to get approx the size of the titanium shaft, since I had no measurements, I got about 4mm difference between the two. The CEN cvd is 6mm between the bearing shoulder and the centre of the universal and I guessed the titanium one to be 11mm, but XMODFORUM could you please measure the distance as shown in the photo. I have a couple of ideas for modification......we wont give up just yet.... Cheers |
RE: Titanium Shafts
BOY AM I BRASSED OFF!!!!! After ordering some GPM TITANIUM TERRA CRUSHER SHAFTS (part no TEC2105T) and getting them shipped all the way to NEW ZEALAND, because I have a plan to make them work on the MT2, I find that THEY DONT FIT!!!!!!!!
Could someone, maybe XMODFORUM please tell me the correct part no. And what truck are they really off, cause it certainly aint the TERRA CRUSHER, these shafts are huge and theres no possible way they will fit in a million years. AAARRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! [:@] |
RE: Titanium Shafts
gutted mate, hopefully its a mistake on the suppliers part...?
|
RE: Titanium Shafts
I dont think it is because the part no. on the shafts I have that dont fit, matches the part no. for the Terra Crusher Titanium shafts on two different websites. (the sites in one of my previous posts)
